View Full Version : SSM Drag Day Recap
Whoa . . .
Bunch of stories to tell here, but that's better left for the attendees.
What I can say is
A. It was hot - 76* when I arrived at 10am and 82* when I left at 3:45pm and miserably humid all day. I made mention to John Kuhn that we never, ever get to run when the temps are in the fifties or the forties. We'd all be faster but such is life in the Sunshine State!
B. There were a ton of MM's there and many, many ran! There were people we didn't know there.
C. Chuck and Claude were there! It was very nice to see and socialize with them.
D. USLYDAWG ran his old Colony Park Wagon down the 1320 and kicked some serious bootie! He had "DAS BOOT" written on the rear windows. What a blast.
E. Penny let her guard down and let Dennis drink . . .
Anyway, to pull up to the track and see a line of MM's 20 deep was just killer. What a great day and a wonderful weekend! I can't wait until the next one!

This was my first trip to any racetrack, and I had a blast. We arrived this morning at around 8 or so and we were the first group there. The staging area was soon filled with 80% Marauders:banana2:. I was very nervous but turns out my first run was my best. 15.389 @ 93.85. I think I was the slowest Marauder there, but my inexperience was to blame for that. When I pulled up to the water box, I had never done a burnout before:eek: I caught on real quick.;) I was only able to get in 5 runs all day. There was at least one blown engine that leaked car blood all the way down the track, causing major delay. There were at least two cars that made contact with the wall, but nothing major. I did alot of sitting in the staging lane waiting for all the other cars. I believe there were at least 220 cars there!! Most of the MM guys went through for the last time at about 2:30 or 3:00. They packed up and headed out, but I wanted more!!! So I sat in the staging lane for several hours. I would get out and chat with other guys about car stuff. My last run FINALLY came at 5:20pm!! There were two more sets of cars after me and that was it. Filled up my rear tires back to normal and headed home. I did get some pictures and will be posting them hopefully tomorrow. I need some sleep.

It was great seeing some of the old faces as well as the new. John I saw that same rocket and I think Alex ( Marauderboi ) got it on video, I will have him post the link and see who can ID the UFO.

Well I think I hit my wall. I did a personal best of 13.60. I was looking for 13.5 but that wasn't happening at 80 degree weather, but it still put one heck of a smile on my face. http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/3/9/6/9/TS2.jpg
And this was on Street radials (KDW 2's) and street gas (93 octane). My best reaction time of the day was .048
So, I have to settle for spot number 5 on the TS page for the NA marauders. Unless we get a cold front down here is sunny Florida in the next couple weeks, the proud owners of 1-4 NA slots won't be threatened by me. Let me go check the weather maps.:banana2:
Oh yeah, and by the way to prove I'm a sick individual, after racing all day, and a 3+ hour ride home, I still had to wash the beast before I turned in last night. The Marauder deserved it.

Ed,
Not to worry. Here they are:
1) Joe Walsh has a forged 5.0.
2) JohnKuhn has a Marauder motor, but an aero body GM.
3) Red, well he's your real competition.
4) I_tried is also competition, but he's a Ford mechanic and is in MN with cooler temps!!!
So, really, not bad, Ed. Not bad!!!

The funny part is I talked to Red at the track and the only difference in our setup is I have Cobra manifolds and he has Kook headers, which equates to .05 1/4 mi. times.
I think you are doing great Ed. As I told you I also ran into a brick wall. I spent a lot of money to only gain .08. It is hard to get more out of the NA motor versus the money spent. SC here I come!

Excellent run, Ed! My best of the day was a 13.565 at 99.80 with a 1.927 60'. Best R/T was .029 (didn't exactly win the competition with that one). Street tires and 93 octane.
Ed, are you interested in going to Moroso tomorrow? The DA should be about -200ft (~55 degree weather). I think I might try 100 octane fuel and go for beating Barry's record of 13.270 @ 102.280 (it was made in similar weather, but unfortunately, I don't have slicks and 110 octane gas --isn't that leaded?). Let me know...

I'm pretty sure 110 is leaded. VP racing fuel has 100 & 103 unleaded. I'm seriously thinking about it, but I'll know for sure later on tonight.
