View Full Version : MarauderTJA: "Finally - I Made The 10 Second Club"

MarauderTJA
02-25-2008, 05:56 AM
After a lots of research, hard work, money spent, some cam sprocket problems due to defective Crower exhaust Cams, I finally made the 10 second club. John Kuhn, my grandson DJ and I drove to the SSM Picnic on Saturday for a great time, then yesterday over to Bradenton Motorsports Park for a RunDay Sunday Event, after three runs finally nailed it.

1st Run - 11.5 @ 131.17 MPH - INSANE:eek: miles per hour, with a 2.052 sixty foot on my street Nitto Drag Radials. Used the 100 shot at aprox the 330 foot mark.

2nd Run - 11.4 @ 130.17 MPH - INSANE :eek: MPH AGAIN with another 2.028 sixty foot but on Hoosier slicks (thanks John Nero). Used the 100 shot at approx the 60 footmark.

The MPH showed the car had a deep 10 second run in her but after talking with people seeing the car run, the tires were not spinning as I thought. I made a couple of calls to my race mechanic Justin Nelson and my tuner Scott Beer. Need more umph out of hole. So I loaded the torque converter to about 2200 rpm and set the N2O switch after my, not so good burnout, to have it hit at the the tree.

The lights came down, I nailed it and ohhhhhhh boy....did she rip it. Nothing like getting slammed in the seat and did she pull all the way to the 1320 mark.....finally....

10.904 et @ 132.78 mph:banana2::banana2::banana2:

I knew it was a great run, felt it from the get go. Then I picked up the time slip and flipped out...started shaking, and the excitement is hard to describe. But many of you know exactly what it is like. Makes it worth every penny you spend on the Marauder's. Unreal, wow what a long road to achieve the goal I started out with the car four years ago.

Thanks to all who helped me make it happen:up: (you know who you are) and for the tremendous support of the SSM members and friends who were there to witness my personal best:beer:.

Then swapped out the tires, put on the AC and stereo and drove 90+ miles home. It doesn't get any better than that.........What a great day........:woohoo:

Congrats again and again Tom! Hey, you left out the part about your first run breaking the bead off the RR Nitto. What was a terrible beginning turned into a spectacular day for everybody!!!

As I recall, the ten-five cars run in the middle one-thirties!

Congratulations again!

Thanks Jake. Actually I had a screw that got into the tire on the return road or the pits. Mark got a plug kit for me to fix it to get home. Then John Nero melted the plug for me:lol:.

Very nice, I have always been a big fan of drive it in, race, drive it home. To me, that proves a good car, and better mechanic.

Impressive numbers, keep up the great work.

Aren't you running slicks that have tubes and the bead is crewed to the wheel? If not, consider it. Sounds like you have first hand knowlege of the results.... Sucks, don't it.

I never ran slicks that were not screwed to the rim.

Be safe.

Fantastic! Congratulations Tom.

Gonna get a roll bar or cage now? I don't really want to put a bar in the car now, nor will I anytime soon. But if I come to Atlanta next November for the proposed SSHS8 it will be in the car. I found a guy on the east coast of Florida who will give me a great deal on a chrome moly bar and make it look factory. We'll see. BTW, the 98 Cobra timing cover you sent me has worked out great. The new FMS steel tensioner has solved the prior tensioner problems.

I am not aware of a street definition other than the ones some tracks use street tires and legal/licensed for street use.

Ford Fun has a definition including driving in a parade a certain distance and requiring hood to be closed from start of parade until end of your last race.

If you drive to and from the track I say it's "street".;)

The sucky part was that they weren't putting times up on the boards. Apparently the very competitive locals don't want their times to show on these test and tune days.
