We sold another Paxton Novi 1200 AA to a local Marauder owner, he decided to add 410's while waiting on the kit to arrive, I had him bring it in to add the 410's and install the fan shroud and cooling reservoir. Steve tore the rear end down, both axial's were shot and the clutches were gone along with the spider gears, the owner had recently paid some one to replace the left rear axial, it was never done, it had the red Ford OEM seal still in place, the right rear had a new seal with a bad axial and who ever installed the seal, beat the axial with a hammer, we documented every thing, and he will be out of here tomorrow with a new 31 spline set up.

Well its a inferior metal or hardening, there is a TSB for the 03A as well as later model CV PI.

Nope, only the 03's. Just like the 03's in black had the clearcoats flake off

Nice pictures and write up Dennis.
I've re-packed the clutches twice and re-placed both axles - one at a time and the spiders always looked good.
This is not the first failure I've heard of that involves the spider gear damage.
Before the clutch material fails, the spiders should not be turning against each other too much as the "posi" tends to resist this except when turning the vehicle. Could you please lend your opinion/experience/thoughts on the spider gear failure?

Thanks,
Paul

Wow! What a POS guy that took his $ for this "fix". I hope he gets all or part of his money back.

Only one question: "fan shroud and cooling reservoir??" This is nothing to do with the backend I take it, but for the SC?

OKay 2 questions :D: the normal axles are what 28 spline? Are axles normally upgraded for you guys with SC'd cars?

Tnx.

Well I want every one to know, the shop called me, the man was nice, but I will not be caught in the middle of this, the man reassured me the right rear axile was replaced new last year, and they put a new OEM bearing and seal in there, the left rear as shown had a afermarket seal, and someone did knock it in and ding up the tube, that is not a big deal just attention to detail, spider gear damage is just from abuse, doing burnouts hard launches, the rear tires on this car were maypops, so its not for me to say, as for a fact what was done before the car came here that is for the car owner and the shop owner to work out. I just covered my self by taking the pictures, and rebuilding the rearend as I feel is best.
