Many of you probably saw that I was selling the Marauder, well today the new owner took possession. He's a member but asked that I let him announce it on his own terms so I'll let him have his fun.
I put in the classified ad that I was selling for personal reasons. The personal reason was to let it be the hammer strike that killed off the last of our consumer debt, and to some extent to physically remove a source of financial indiscretion in my life. I admit I spent way too much money on the Marauder but wouldn't blame our debt on it, the debt just came with not paying attention over the years. Besides the car loan I tried not to borrow to pay for mods - but the mod money was probably better spent elsewhere. I'm sure a few of you have an appreciation for what I mean. We've focused hard this past year to pay off our cars, credit cards and a home equity line and all that remained was a 2nd mortgage from some old home improvements. I had my fun, but I just couldn't justify keeping a garage queen that if sold would pay that off too. I know some people will think it was a bit short sighted to sell the car but once I got the title in my hand I just saw it as a means to an end. That right there told me it was the right time to move on.
Anyway, now that I don't have a car to blow money on I'm going to need to find something else to do - maybe finally finish fixing up the house. But before I fade away, I wanted to say that I really enjoyed meeting new people and seeing old friends at all the meets and visiting with the forum characters. I think selling the car while I still enjoyed it will let me remember the past few years as a really great time in my life. Thank you all, have fun and be safe.
And just for Barry and Zack, I'll try not to let the door hit me in the ass on the way out...
:D

JD,
Always nice exchanging with you as you are truely a gentleman. Most of us would like things staying fixed but our priority have to change over time and since money doesn't grow in trees ... ;)
One thing that will not change I guess is the way this special car has bring together a lot of different/alike people from all over the continent ...

Well said JD, If I did not see a glimmer of light (end of tunnel) I may have to turn the lights off too.
Best of luck Pal!
JD I have followed your life through your car. It's always sad :mad2: to see long term members fade away. You were an institution here at the .net. You were on my short list of people I wanted to see.

I understand your point and reasons J.D. I just wanted to say thank a whole bunch for being there and helping me with my car. Hope you hang around... Seneca

As long as this site exists, the lights will be on for you, and the door unlocked.
This member got a helluva MM.

Now you can start saving up to buy a Marauder in a couple of years.
Use the next one as a daily driver.:)

I'm back, LOL!
I really appreciate the comments. I've just seen a lot of other members disappear from the site after selling their car, and I wanted to say thanks to everyone that has made this such an enjoyable experience while I still felt the sting of letting the car go.
I spoke to the new owner this morning and he's having fun on his road trip home. John once told me a great story about flying out to California to pick up a car and the good memories he still has driving it back. I really hope this young man takes away the same. He told me he was very excited to find and to be able to afford a car like this, and I think there will be a bit of a Marauder revival as these cars are passed on from the "old guys." It may have started already. Anyway, I am really pleased he is already having fun with it.
To clarify just a bit, I sold the car as a minor step in a larger personal financial plan, and doing so has allowed us to get total debt free (except for our modest primary mortgage) a year earlier than we would have otherwise. We can now focus our cash flow on saving for emergencies, properly funding the kids college and our retirement plans, paying off the house early, and eventually even investing. It wasn't about selling the car in a pinch, it was about getting on with it. Anyone who has ever tuned into to Dave Ramsey's personal financial advice knows where I am... and right now I'm doing better than I deserve.
And who knows, in a couple of year I might be able to pick up a gently used Marauder for a decent price (paying cash of course) and rekindle the passion.

Planning for the future is admirable. But don't forget the present - you are always living in a "constant now."
Get a new MM as soon as practical.

JD,
It's been fun meeting up here and there that last few years, and understand your decision. Good luck with your future and stay tuned into the site here and your friends.... Granted, I'm only up Rte 29 a few hours away (at least for a few more months).
As I sit here typing away at the Embassy Suites in Lompoc, CA I will be looking for MM owners here on the Left Coast as I plan my departure from the Mid-West and -10 degree weather and move to the "American Riveria" just north of Santa Barbara... this summer.
Oh by the way 91 Octane is $3.59 and Diesel is $3.74 here this evening...

I didn't really mean to start this as a "see ya and good luck" thread, there just were a few people asking privately if I was selling because of a hardship or whatever. I can see where the concern would come from after I suddenly slapped the "For Sale" sign on it. That's what I really loved about this car. Cars come and go but all the good people I met and friends I made because of this one in particular made it special. I guess I just needed to explain myself to a few but probably didn't do a very good job of it. To your point though, after the garage space is cleared out people seem to just get on with everyday life. It's not wrong, it's just the way it is. I've visited this site at least once every day I was near a computer for the past 4+ years so it's probably going to be a hard habit to break anyway.

I hope you stick around JD. For the last 4 years + years you have been a good friend. The last time I was in KC I think I spent more time with you than I did with the kids. We've done 2 Maraudervilles together and met twice when I came back to KC.
This winter I left mine in the garage and I'm beginning to understand the garage queen thing.
Don't be a stranger. :)
