Hey all,

My buddy works at a Ford Dealership and can get me a TC from an 04 Marauder for $270.00. Would it be worth my trouble to replace my 03 TC for the 04 (gains, if any)? What's the average price for installation of a TC? Would I have to get the car retuned? Is there anything else I should know? I know that if I got a 3000 stall or 3500 stall converter I'd see much better gains, but I'd also spend much more money. So it's either this converter or nothing. Thanks for all the help.

First off welcome to the site!

Secondly, That is pretty expensive for a stock convertor. If you watch the classifieds you'll find someone selling thier OEM one for sometimes less then a $100.
The stock stall on a 03 Marauder is 2300 and the 04 is 2700. You probably wont notice any difference and after spending all that money for the install its really not worth it.
You cant go wrong with a PI 3000 or 3500 stall.

+1 on the PI converter.

Thanks for all the help. How much does a after market converter go for?

PI's go from $650-750 depending where you buy them from. I'm not sure how much Darrin charges to build one.

Actually, the stall on both the 03 and 04 Marauder converters is exactly the same. The real difference between the 2 is that the 04 converter has some additions that make it a slightly more durable piece. The k factor on the converter didn't change at all.

Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'll be spending my money else where. I'm thinking an electric water pump is in my near future.

How about a cheaper alternative with the same gains.

Hmm, very interesting. Looks like a great mod but there was still no dyno results. But it is $200 bucks cheaper than the electric wp and offers, at least in theory, the same gains. Thanks for the link, I'll consider my option.

Several people including Rich (magindat) and I have also done the EMP water pump. Easy to install and no problems whatsoever from any of us yet.

Well, the EMP is ordered, should get it on Wed. Should I order a 180 degree t-stat to go along with it?

Yes

One more quick question. The 180 degree tstat is ordered. I dont need a retune for that, do I?

Rich has said you don't have too, but if you want to take full advantage of it, then yea.

Well that sucks. I guess I can do that later down the road. Any idea how much it costs for a retune? I'll just e-mail Lidio and ask.

You answered your own question. I installed the pump without a retune and I personally don't think I need one.

I think the next time I do a installation thread Ill be sure to clean my engine!! I cant believe that's my car after looking at the thread again. :puke:

Just tell the tuner what you've done to the car and he will allow for it/take advantage of it in the tune.

The water pump is a reduction in parasitic load and thus does not need nor benefit from tuning.

The 180 stat with cooler plugs (NGK-TR6) and a tune to take advantage of cooler temps WILL net you some gains.
