Does anyone have information/firsthand knowledge of their products or reputation? I've been looking over their shortblocks and there are two that look promising.
Also, piston coating, they advertise teflon skirt coating and ceramic dome coating, sound like something worthwhile if nitrous may be in the future?

I believe TMF has one in Pro Rauder.

Yep, I have the MMR StreetMod 900. Skip the teflon coating and stuff on the dome, that's like when the Stealership asks if you want your car undercoated. They wear right off and you've wasted your money.
I've got about 30,000 of extreme punishment on mine and just upped the boost a bunch. Will let you know after the dyno session if it holds.
:D
Remember, mine is still available!

I think Brian, Ford Nut had a motor from them.

"I got screwed by MMR, I would never recommend anybody spend money with them."

Thats good to hear, so I take it you like the MMR engine and their quality? I'm just nervous as heck as this engine will have to last, can't do this again any time soon. I was actually thinking about the MMR 900 in either 4.6 or 5.0 displacement. Are there drawbacks, reliability issues, or longevity concerns with the stroker engines?
Then there is compression... keep the standard compression or go lower, say 9 or 9.5... I'll be upgrading the Vortech to a T-Trim in the meantime. This is daunting for someone like me that does not know a whole lot about what works performance-wise.

Look into a Cobra Reman. They come in both short and long. If you have low miles and in an area where the labor rate is reasonable go with the short block. It's a forged motor with a proven record
The only down side is the low compression.
Mine is available! Diamond Pistons, Manley Rods, Cobra Crank.
9.75:1 Compression.
NO WAITING

But that is an oxymoron alert. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Anytime you play with boost you are reducing the longevity of the motor. If you want it to last, then remove the boost.
In other words, I think we're trying to arrive at your definition of "this engine will have to last, can't do this again any time soon". Only you can decide this.
You could buy Zack's motor, the MMR 900, or something built in a garage but what you are looking for is some sort of guarantee. Buy the first one that guarantees the motor, that's my advise to you. Otherwise be prepared to do it again.

A friend of mine bought a long block from them and had a problem with the engine and they wouldn't do a thing about it. A wrist pin was defective and said it was his problem....
You take a gamble no matter what engine you get.

Boy, that is the truth.....you want big horsepower be prepared to pay.
If you bring the car to me and let me do the fuel system and have it tuned locally, Ill stand by it.

My tech is hard at work getting the engine pulled, with luck it will be out by the end of the day. I want to do the autopsy and see what is still good before making my mind up on anything else, if the heads are bad then its going to hurt. I'm not planning on anything radical or trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. My goals are to hit mid-high 500s at the wheels and maybe (MAYBE!) add a little shot of nitrous for the track, looking for low 11s if not a high 10. I kind of look at it as I got two years/21k miles doubling the rated output of a stock engine so if I take a built engine and only use about 3/4 or so of what its rated for then maybe (MAYBE!) it will last a little longer. I know, pure speculation, anything can happen and usually does but I want to lessen the odds a bit.

Best of luck with everything. Hitting the low 11's and high 10's is not an easy task, believe me. Should be easier for you with cooler temps in MD. Hope you make it.

What are you doing about a roll bar/cage?

What are you doing about a roll bar/cage?
The rollbar is already done, had to get one last winter for the 11.4 time in order to run this past year. The car was running solid mid-11s 119-120mph. I won't need a full cage until the 9s... so that'll be never.

The swingouts work great and they come completely out for daily driving.

Very nice cage! Who made or designed (& installed) it? I assume no one makes a kit?

Looks really nice, I may be doing the same thing with a chrome moly bar going in my car this summer. Got lucky with not getting kicked off the track with my two 10-9 runs. Won't work at Atlanta this November though. I will have to make a decision before then.
I have their Race 1100 shortblock and so far am VERY pleased.
The coating is so worth it. It is race proven technology. When I got mine, they weren't even offering it. I had them send a set of pistons to Polydyn to do the skirts and ceramic.tops. http://www.polydyn.com/coated_pistons.htm
When they got them back, they liked them so much they started offering the coatings as an option. Through a different company but similar I am sure.
If you are going to run any kind of power adder, it is good insurance.
It is well worth it for added protection. No more power but a little added safety.
