I've got a set of Motive 3.90s.
They look great, but I can't vouch for how easy they install, nor how quiet they are....as I've yet to do the install.
I'm still struggling with my choice for the differential.
I've got an Auburn 31 spline sitting in a box in my basement. (originally destined for my 85 Mustang GT)
But, I'm really leaning towards a 31 spline Detroit Trutrac torque sensing unit.

I don't know this first hand, a but a lot of people on the various Mustang forums complain about the Motive gears being louder (ie. whining) than the Ford Racing gears. In fact, some of the Ford branded 4.10:1 gears are actually made by Motive and they get complaints as well. If your Ford 4.10s have an "M" stamped on the ring gear or the product number ends in an M then you've got a set of the gears made for Ford by Motive.
Again, can't speak to any of this first hand, just passing along what I've seen others complain about on-line.

Heard from numerous places that the Motives are noisy - but no personal experience; I went with the Ford Racing and like them (though, amazingly, the pinion head on the first set I purchased - yes, I purchased another set and reinstalled - turned out to be outside what was considered normal variation in length).

There was a thread not too long ago about FRPP 4.10's, and people have said they've gotten noisy, well, the newer sets from them and people are starting to use Yukon. I had Yukon 3.55's in my CV and had no complaints about them.

I've got Motive 4.10 gears, haven't installed them yet but I know a bunch of Chevy people running them and as long as they are installed properly they will be fine. They take more attention to detail to sit them right.

Its kind of a hard subject..The only one that maybe able to shed some light are the people that install gears for a living and have installed both... If they aren't set up right any brand of gear will whine...

Always use a solid pinion bearing preload spacer. The crushwasher is not a high-performance way to go. Ford had a solid spacer shim kit. It is no longer in the 2008 catalog, though.

I chatted with the owners of a local speed shop that does a lot of Mustang work and one of the owner's wives owns a Marauder. He will only install FRPP gears whether stang or MM. He has done a couple gear installs for our local MM owners and they are happy with no problems. I will likely have them do mine or drive up to DR's shop when it's time for our 4.10s.
