Drove by it today and stopped to see it. Great condition, all original. Pretty good price too. If it hit Barret Jackson I'm sure it would be more.

It has a REAL Hemi, with some "internal" work done, you do the math.

If that is a real GTX with those options and not a clone that is a good price in todays market. I don't know anyone with a mopar VIN decoder anymore.
Those cars were a real kick in the ass. A friend I haven't seen in years had a '70 440 six pack 4spd Road Runner, and when he nailed it and opened up the outboard carbs it felt like you were shot out of a canon. :burnout::burnout:

Man oh Man! The good old days when you could order something like that from a dealer. Just check the box and for a few extra dollars it was added at the factory. :depress:

rofl Larry, thanks for the clarification. I talked with a salesman, slipped my mind that it was the tranny and not HP, however he said the owner told them it was putting down some impressive power.

The knucklehead who wrote up the ad, did mistakenly list the engine at 727 horsepower. But when you read further, you see the 727 automatic mentioned. Then it goes on to say that the engine was originally a 440 4bbl. Then upgraded to the Six-Pack set up, and is now rated at 390 horsepower.
It is still a nice looking car. But it would need further scrutiny before paying that price.

I owned a '70 GTX back in the late 70's. The color was plum crazy. It had the 440 ci engine with 375 hp. It was a huge car that would haul butt and suck up the gas. Nice car!

I sold my '69 Roadrunner 440 4 speed to get the Marauder, needed 4 doors. Tom

Sweet looking MOPAR!

But...get rid of those lame Cragar mags!

I never liked Cragars and still don't....especially on a clean original musclecar.

I used to love the Mustang guys who would pull off a gorgeous set of OEM Magnum 500s and slap on chrome Cragars..:puke:

Nothing says REDNECK like a set of chrome Cragars!

"LOOK Bubba! Look how far they stick out of them ther rear fenders!
....but they rub a little."
"Awwwww....heck....I'll jus slap on a set of Gabriel Hi-Jackers!!!!"
"WOOOO HOOOO!"

HEY!!!
I wonder if Cragar makes a set to fit my Marauder!?!?

A 440 is not a Hemi.

As noted it's a conversion to a 6 pack.

The car looks like it had a pro restoration.

By todays standards this car and those from that era are not very good nor are they very fast. I have spent a lot of time under Chargers and under the hoods of Chargers.

Best to look at them at car shows and imagine owning one, "Kodachrome".;)

Agreed, brakes, handling, fit and finish all leave something to be desired.

On the other hand, a multi-carb big block has some kick-azz torque; stomp on it and it will really throw you back in the seat. That's the one thing missing on the MM, IMO.

Well said. Don't forget the sounds it makes, and the one thing carbs are good for--quick reving and dropping right back to idle quickly.

The 440 engine was not a HEMI. I believe it had the "Wedge" heads....

That's right, and the basic blocks were different as well.

The 440 was based on the original "B" series block, the hemi was designated an "RB" block, which had a raised deck height to accomodate extra stroke.

I think the allure to the early muscle cars is not as great as it once was. There was a time when it seemed their power would never be matched. Now you can eat'em with the A/C on listening to a cd. A new Z06 vette can smoke anything ever made back in the day. And is much more enjoyable to drive. I do admit certain cars from that era are real pretty to look at and sound good!

Yep!

But you cannot beat the sound of a Big Block V8 with a thumper cam that can barely idle as it 'WHUMPA WHUMPA WHUMPAs' through a set of open dual exhausts!

A little education time, there were 2 series of big block mopars, B engines, and RB engines, the RB stands for raised block, meaning a taller deck height than the B series. the first RB motor appeared in the late 50's as a 413 ci engine, next came the 426 ci engine in 1964, which is what the hemi is based on. Chrysler made some modifications to the stock 426 block to make it stronger for the intended hemi use. 2 of the main differences were cross bolted main caps bolts, (2 out of the 4 on each cap), and a block tapped to accept the hemis heads unique bolt hole design. Thats why you can't bolt hemi heads on any stock RB engine. The 426 eventually became the 440 in 1967.

NOM = Not Original Motor Nuf said.

If you can find someone with documentation on an ORIGINAL car, that my friends is something worth having. Anything else, IMHO, is just a plain wannabe!

Respect should be given to any nice car, reguardless of the brand and what's been done to it. And that my friend is a nice car, even better in person.

I didn't realize this, always thought the hemi block differed from the 440 block, i.e. different deck heights, lower ends, etc.

If you read the entire ad. It says 375hp but was converted to the 6 pak set rated @390 hp. So I assume he put in the transmission with is a 727 torqflite.

EDIT: Whoops I see someone beat me to it sorry:P, my bad. I will try to read the entire thread 1st next time before responding. bad boy, bad boy, bad boy.
