no because im still on the stock ride hieght all way round

Stock 245/55-18 Revs Per Mile is 705
255/55-18 Revs Per Mile is 694

Your speedo will be off by 1-2 mph, reading slowly than your actually going. When it says 60 you will be going around 61 actually.

You need to get a tune! ;)

Why anyone who owns this car still does not have a tune yet.... I don't think I would have bought this car if I didn't already know when I test drove it, that the horrible stock shift sequencing could be fixed w/ plug in tuners.

Ctrlraven, your calculation is for the free-hanging circumference, not the rolling circumference (which considers static loaded radius).

See this thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42307).

Or, you can also use the following tire calculator, which yields almost identical numbers to the method outlined in that thread.

See this calculator (http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action= submit).

airborne_mp84, the 245/50R18s will be about 752 revs/mile and the 255/55R18s will be about 716 (unfortunately, Goodyear does not appear to report the actuals on these tire sizes). Your stock tires are about 763 revs/mile in the front and 727 revs/mile in the rear (BFGoodrich reports these to be 759 revs/mile and 724 revs/mile, respectively).

Using the calculated numbers, your rake is actually very close to stock (0.8% difference), so you should have no problems with ABS / Traction Control (if you have it) over the life of the tires. Also, your speed will only be off by about 1.5%, meaning your speedo will show you doing 60, when you're actually doing about 60.9 mph and at 80, you'll actually be doing about 81.2 mph. This is a number I feel you can live with and does not require a tune.

You can calculate this using the following formula:

new mph = (old mph * new revs/mile) ÷ (old revs/mile)

Your best bet will always be to get the revs / mile from the manufacturer (if available... in this case, they're not) and if not to use a calculation based on the static loaded radius.

Something like Emerson Fittipaldi, "Today, my Goodyear tires ees sheet!"

If you have a widened set of rear rims I wonder if there is a set up using the F1s that would still work. Has anyone tried this? I'm looking for a set of summer tires ans widened rear rims to handle the boost.

From the offerings listed on tirerack (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=Goodyear&model=Eagle+F1+GS-D3&tirePageLocQty=), there's nothing that will match up to the stock front size. However, if you are willing to swap all four tires and go with a slightly lower load index, the following combinations are likely your best choices (closest rake and load index):

Front: 255/35R18 (94 load), about 830 revs/mile
Rear: 295/35R18 (99 load), about 795 revs/mile
Notes: Closest rake (~3% percent change in revs/mile--negligible); closest to stock load rating (which is 97 front, 103 rear); widest footprint for these tires on 18" rims; and will lower the car about 2", giving a numerically higher final drive ratio. Widest acceptable section width for fronts without spacers is unknown and also unknown whether there are consequences to going with 2" smaller diameter tires (besides needing your revs/mile updated).

Front: 235/40R18 (91 load), about 820 revs/mile
Rear: 275/40R18 (99 load), about 780 revs/mile
Notes: Next closest rake (~7 percent change in revs/mile--very small); lesser load in the front; decent footprint in the rear; will lower the car about 2"; and no width issues in front. Again, unknown whether there are additional consequences of 2" smaller tires (besides needing your revs/mile updated).

Edit: The percent change is the amount of change between the stock front-rear revs/mile difference and the upgraded front-rear revs/mile difference, with stock front revs/mile calculated to be about 763 and the rear revs/mile calculated to be about 727.

Since I will be in the market soon for new tires I would like to clarify. You are running 245's up front - stock is 235. 245's on the front should not effect any control issues?

You have the 255's on the rear that effect the speddo a tiny bit. Will this also mean that it will turn the Odomoter a tiny bit faster? I have a tune and assume I could correct all this by doing a re-tune.

Thanks

The 235/50R18 GS-D3's are recommended because they have a higher load and speed rating (101Y XL) than the 245/50R18 GS-D3's (100W SL). However, the 245/50's when combined with the 255/55's will provide a nearly identical "rake" to stock, meaning less chance of ABS/Traction Control issues, though there should be no problems associated with either option. Presumably, the speedometer will affect the odometer. You can correct your speedo by using an SCT Xcal2/3 handheld tuner or by getting your car's tune updated.
