it is starting to get way out of control. I love the Marauder but with 17mpg and 3.25 a gallon and on the way up I am starting to think it might be time to make a move....but then again when I get behind the wheel I say to myself this is too much fun.

What if any will be your breaking point? $3.50, $4.00, $5.00

lets hear it........

OPEC members need not respond

It sounds like you need to make some financial changes to compensate for the higher gas prices. Man up son. There ain't no quittin the Marauder cuz you can't afford fuel. Cut back on groceries, refinance your home, get a second job. anything is better than selling. REALLY!!

My solution for myself has been to walk a half an hour to the train station, take the train, then take a free shuttle and then take the light rail which leaves me outside of my place of employment. Then i have fun in the Marauder on weekends.

15K per year @25 MPG @$3.00 is an annual fuel costs of $1,800

15K per year @18 MPG @$3.30 is an annual fuel costs of $2,750

Before you sell consider exactly how much you will be saving $950 per year or $79.16 per month.

Assuming no aditional aquisition costs, as in an even trade.

Well, I detuned from my 94 tune to the 91 tune, and drive my big-butt diesel work truck home as often as possible. I also try to keep the revs to 2k max during my morning commute, no jack-rabbit starts etc. We are at $1.19 per litre here, so we already pay more than you.

As others mentioned, I too walk more. Not hopping into the MM to go a few blocks to the store anymore!

My son told me he paid over $4.00 a gallon for that crap premium near Redwood City,CA today.
I paid $3.79 for 93 octane Shell here in Chicago. $18 to fill the tank on a Harley,DAMN!

I paid $3.35 for 93 octane today. Not sure when the bottom will fall out. But I am driving less per day, by more than 30 miles, for sure. That's nearly two galllons.

I've had to double my gas budget from this time last year, bummer.

I "try" to stay off of the gas pedal. it doesn't really work most of the time but... i don't really know what price i would quit buying gas at. lets face it they have us by the short hairs. We need it, they have it... damn... they also lead the world market in sand production too... damn... what dont they have...

I'm fortunate enough to be in a financial position that it's not an issue for me and I will scrimp in other ways before not driving a fun car. I just spent a week driving a rental Dodge Caliber. Even though that is an okay car for what it is, it ain't for me. Cars are way more than transportation for me - they are my main hobby as well. So, I'll save money not spent on booze and women I guess!

I'll cut back in other areas first.

You want to get gas prices to drop, write your congressional representiatives demanding that he/she support drilling for oil in the ANWR and off-shore Florida. We do that and start supplying more or our own oil and we can tell OPEC to take a hike.

My MM isn't going anywhere regardless of the gas prices. Even though my wife has said no a million times if it gets $4.50-$5.00 a gallon I am buying a motorcycle.

We still have better gas prices than most of the world. I'd hate to live in Europe where its $6-8 (in US monies) PER LITER!

I'm already motorcycle shopping! Increased gas prices are a great excuse to get a bike. My wife isnt convinced yet either, though.

I also use cruise control a lot now and go the speed limit. Premium is almost $4 dollars here in California now. Its really jumped up rather suddenly in large spikes. And I don't acclerate as fast.

Just really hurts when I have to get gas for my Marauder and my 88 vic. Guess that is what happens when you use one car until it needs gas but then start using the other car until it needs gas. You last twice as long, but then you have two tanks to fill when they are both empty, ha ha. But I go to Costco and they seem to have the lower price around here. And the AM/PM convenience store/gas station.

There are also tips I've heard about how to get the most out of your gas. Like filling up at certain times, etc. Due to the vapors in the gas. Also they say not to fill up at the maximum flow level. It puts more vapors in the gas. Also don't fill up when the gas tanker is there. Etc. I'll see if I can find the list and report back.

I commute 35 miles each way. Mostly at 80mph. I average 20 to 21mpg with my 4:10's. I could buy a Prius or a Corola or an Accord ad get 30mpg but then I think to myself....what's my life worth? When an Expedition driven my a multitasking soccer mom plows into me at 70+ mph I'll just become part of the crumple zone for her car. Physics says mass wins every time. To beat gas prices, and bad weather, I bought a 1988 Pontiac Grand Am. I paid $400 for it with a blown Head Gasket.

To Date, I have about $1400 in it, including new Head Gasket, New Alt, New Water Pump, New Starter, New Tires, New Brakes, New Shocks, etc.

The thing runs like a champ, and gets upwards of 28MPG on the highway.

No magic number here either. Of course gas mileage wasn't even a consideration when I bought it, and it isn't now. I used to own a 70 Road Runner. Got about 11 mpg right after a tune up if I kept my foot out of it. The Marauder is an economy car compared to that.

At the pumps, the price for 94 was $1.235/liter, this morning. Call our dollars at par, and I'm paying $4.66/gal, and getting ~16mpg in the daily grind of heavy stop and go, using winter formulated gas. I'm still not thinking of unloading, yet... I have other commuting options available to me (pretty good public transit system), but this one is the most comfortable, and well worth the cost...

That isn't the real supply problem. The REAL problemis that the gasoline refineries are operating at max capacity, and there have been no more built for nearly 16 years now.

You're right on target there! Even with efficiency improvements made in the existing refineries over the last 10-15 years, demand is outstripping production capability.

The hidden problem is the way most people drive, jackrabbit starts from each lights, speeding up on the interstate (20+ MPH) to get in front of someone rather than s-l-o-w down and fall in behind, you get the picture.

I see ever day when driving a tour bus. I hear people tell me all the time how high gas prices are and they are thinking about selling or trading in their car for a smaller car.

Hear is news flash***LEARN HOW TO DRIVE*** :soapbox:

My F-150 is my daily driver...10.4. MPH vs. 24. in the big Merc. I am almost ready to park the truck and drive the Merc.

Filled the truck last night in Lawrenceville 16 gallons @ 3.01= $48.00

Mo offence to anyone here but, if your going to sell/trade the marauder for something with better MPG's then you're going to take a big "hit" on the value of the Merc and pay more for a small car because of market value.

"Gasoline is the cheapest trill", Blue Oyster Cult sang that in 1973 as I sat in a gas line 2 hours long and they only gave out 10 gallons at a time, I was driving a Bug so it was a fill up for me. Now it's still cheaper than beer, water, Bourbon and a host of my other faults. Shamu gets 22 MPG on the road and while not the best of the cars I have owned none of them had 460 RWHP at 5000RPM.

I love my DTR, but with 93 at $3.70+ here and rising almost daily, I am looking. Being a lowly civil servant with a family and retirement looming in the not too distance future I have to make a choice. I won't drive a junker for a DD. I will be looking at a Fusion probably on Monday. I also have a line on a, dare I say it, Cheby HHR SS. :flamer: Hard to find around here. Fits my needs for size, MPG and the need for speed and handling. Its all a mute point if they don't give me enough $ for the DTR on trade... The three sources I checked vary quite a bit on the current value. BTW, the wife and daughter are dead set AGAINST me trading the DTR. Go figure

Why get an HHR when an Escape Hybrid can get you much better mileage?

That's actually a nice looking machine... I'm happy w/ the Mazda 3 I got to replace my T-Bird. My T-Bird was getting a little pricey w/ gas going up...but it didn't have a payment...so that more than balanced it out. I've achieved most of my "multi-vehicle" plan along w/ an added bonus (motorcycle). The Marauder isn't going anywhere....along w/ the Mazda 3 S-Touring, and the '71 Monte Carlo. Add the '01 Sport Trac and the '06 Scion tC (wife's vehicles primarily) and we're all good to go. Use the Beemer to save some gas here and there and have fun ('86 BMW K100RS).
