View Full Version : Anyone have a storage lift in their garage?
Anyone have a storage lift in their garage? If so, how high is your ceiling, and what did you do with the overhead door to make it work? It seems like most homes have 10 foot ceilings in the garage, and I can't see how that would work.

Yeah, been there and done that. With my ceilings I couldn't get another car under it and had to have the thing just barely in the air to raise the door.

raise the roof or build a dedicated shop. when mine is built, I will install a 4-post lift (or two)

I've been thinking of getting one. I have an 11 foot 6 inch roof.
Liftking is a great company that opened up, up here to fill this market. $3,000 for a four post 8000lbs model.

I have 10ft ceilings in the 3 bay Morton building, and wish the 12ft option had been selected. With the installed long base optioned, 4 post Rotary Lift, I can raise the pickup high enough to work under it with a roller stool, but not stand up. (I'm 6'4) (short people, like that weenie, Gordon, would have no trouble at all)
Vehicles with a lower hight, like the Ford GT or the '65 mustang pose no problems whatsoever. The overhead door does intrude into the space, but with the GT on top, or the Mustang fastback backed in, there's plenty of clearance. If you guys want to come over, before or after the CAM DOO in May, I'll be happy to give you a tour. The lift's posts do not obstruct the overhead door, because they're wider than the opening. :)

Go for a Rotary, my dads shop and our farm shops thats all we have. The more hight you can get the better. Good luck with your project.
The height of the Mustang is 54". Two of them stacked would be 108", or 9 feet. If you add the height of the ramps, plus a few inches clearance, you'd be right at 10' or a little more. So I don't think stacking my 2 Mustangs will work.

Jon, how about if you let the air out of the tyres?
Actually I put my lift in to do service and detailing + it's just cool to have one.
Also, once you get to be my age, the horse***** with the jack stands and the cold concrete floor with the crap running down your arm and dripping off your elbow + the stuff in your eyes, and glasses getting gunked up with goo; never mind (finally) getting to stand up and clean the rims etc. ......:geezer:
