Dom's post about the theft of his beloved Blazer got me interested, and after looking up the particulars on LOJACK, i went to the most stolen list.
I know the LOJACK installment equals the expense of some very nice performance enhancements, but it may be a better purchase, in the long run.

Yeah, but those numbers are very inflated and skewed.
..."compares the number of vehicles stolen and not recovered against vehicle registration volume information provided by R.L. Polk & Co., to determine the rate of theft"...
So, since the MM had only 11k total made, 10% theft rate would be about 110 cars. Acuras and Honda models, would have more like 100k made, would have to have 10,000 stolen to also be at 10% theft rate. Our number just looks big because our total production run was so low.

I'm wondering if Marauder thefts will increase as years go by because the demand for parts will increase? My Celica was stolen when we lived in NYC (probably for parts as it was not new/partially stripped when found.) Turns out it was near the top of the most stolen car list for that year. After that, we checked out the least stolen car list and bought a used Ford Escort. The car was never stolen but they took my battery several times, instead. We resorted to taking the battery out every time we parked the car and putting it in our foyer until we needed it again. Huge PITA!:(

Go park your car in the slums of any state and let me know how that works out for you.

That still doesn't make the statistics valid. It would probably jump 1% on that theft alone. ;)
Thats why the same day i took my car off the dealers lot my FIRST stop was to the shop to get my python alarm installed. You would have to be crazy not to have some sort of anti theft device on these cars.

I know, I just felt like saying that. It will probably get him mad. He's lucky he doesn't have the K&N intake though, that alone would make it more desireable.

Yeah me too!
BTW, Ford didn't decontent the PATS system for the '04s did they?
I wonder why '04 is preferred?

Thanks for the article.
My reasoning followed the exact same steps, except diverged on LoJack, since the service is not available here in Wisconsin. There are some competitors, and even some really cool mobile-phone/GPS tracking networks, but much of it has monthly charges. I'd rather drop one lump sum and forget about it. I might just invest the money in deterrents like kill switches and alarm systems. They won't save the wheels, but it'll save the 32V 4.6L.

Little boy, how could you possibly make me mad when you prove, and admit to, your own ignorance and immaturity? On the contrary, I find your honesty quite remarkable and refreshingly open. Congrats on stepping up to the plate and accepting who you really are. Remember, you CAN grow if you choose to!
Who's a big boy now? You are! Good boy!
Geez, I love it when people prove my point for me...even if they can't realize it.

There are actually 2 systems that don't have a monthly fee. The basic install price is all you pay unless the car is stolen. Then, a "wake-up" call is activated via cell network (once you call the company and report the theft), and tracking starts. I think it's .25 per lookup, so you can call it every 5 mins or less when you're riding with LEOs to find it. Or you can just authorize your browser login to an LEO with a computer and web capability.:)
And unless you've left the keys in your MM, I don't see many PATS systems being defeated. The only stolen MMs I've heard about were "commando towed".

How about for years 2006 & 2007 ? are Marauders still being stolen at a high percentage?

Only the Marauder police package versions!
Considering the many MMs we've seen written off, and the abundance of easier hi-po cars to steal, I'd guess not. I'll bet SRT 4s and heck, SRT anything will be high, since there is a much much bigger market for those parts than for our cars. Joyriders aside, thieves usually only steal what they can sell.

Man, what a douche. I'm only 20, I'll grow up when I feel like it. Deep down you want to retaliate, but you won't because then everyone on here will see you as an "immature grown up man." So thanks, I'll continue acting ignorant. Some people don't grow up, they just get older. So, I hope you feel better about yourself arguing with a person who's 19 years younger.

That's an interesting take, and one I had not considered. To further your argument, if I may; since the author specified 2004 Marauder, as Charlie points out, the statistic is even further skewed, since there were far fewer '04's than '03's.

Is it possible to steal an MM with the PATS system? I know nothing is "fool-proof" but other than a flatbed hauling it off, how would you get it started to steal it??

In England I had a Toyota Carina II, the least desireable car in Britain for the theft. Not that fancy looking either, but it was a great car.
I think on a median score the Marauder would also be near the bottom of the list. Mean percentage rates just don't work when comparing cars with huge production variation.
For instance if a DTR was stolen in Canada it would be the highest rate of car theft ever. 1 of 13 is 7.692%, but if 7.692% of F150's were stolen, then it would be a huge number.

Your point is a very good one, the 03 MM numbers would be quite different due to the fact there were more than double the 03's as 04's. I hadn't thought of that either, and yup, it does prove my original point even stronger. Thanks for the heads up!:)
As someone else mentioned, numbers can be made to say anything you want, especially if you know the result you want beforehand!
