All,
A wiki user called "TheBalance" :censor: has once again stripped back large sections of the extensive MM entry that has been discussed on this board a few times:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=41601&highlight=wiki
I copied and pasted the info that JimLam56 had posted (since TheBalance removed the content in stages making it very difficult to restore through normal means on the Wiki site).
If you check the revision history for the article you will be able to see what this character has been up to (I did a restore earlier in the week as well). I would suggest that on occasion members verify the Wiki entry to ensure it is not unfairly altered.

We can contact Wiki and tell them that specific user keeps "tampering" with the Mercury Marauder section and they'll keep a closer eye on it.

I somewhat agree with some of the reductions TheBalance made. The very lengthy text didn't specifically site some of its sources, which always helps make things more believable and accurate. Also, there were mentions of the J-mod and other super-specific modifications that I don't think have place in a general encyclopediac article. Unless we want to cite further from trusted web sources (MM.net is not sufficient), we should scale back the 03-04 section to a couple of paragraphs.

Non-factual elements could be removed, and wording can be changed to make a particular detail more concise and accurate, but if a specific component should not be mentioned (JMOD) even if factual, then Wiki will need some HEAVY policing by librarians or whoever are the experts in the field - not the general public; the site is full on nonsense and personal opinion. Who will be the fact-police and decide which facts are more important than others? Why list the two transmission types (70W and 75W) for 03 and 04 - that detail is totally unimportant if the listing should be a "general" article?
I would think facts are facts, anything else is open for removal.

I think you both have a point (for what my opinion is worth anyway :D).
My experience is I would hope to find expanded data in a wiki listing - with decent concerned folks with the time to maintain and self-diagnose the entry - I think the point of a public information forum.
My thanks to GrazniM for checking in on the entry - I would have never thought of it myself.

I play a lot of simulations... Civilization 4, Sim City 4, Flight Simulator, ect. but the best one is Wikipedia. I feel just like a real encyclopedia editor every time I play!

The head editor was quick to remove my data entry a year or so back. I even got a warning that I would be blocked from the site if I tried it again.
All I did was add the sentence "The black one's are faster".
Well its not trashed, but it is cut to shreds, I guess the best way to get him off our ass, is to edit it ourselves.
Perhaps make a few subheadings on the different parts of our entry instead of one long article to start. This guy obviously has an ax to grind against anyone adding anything bordering on the lines of enthusiasm.
BTW, I think we should leave in the 94-96 impala part, since there are undeniable similarities between our cars, I even have a article I bought to prove it. Though I still think ours are better.

LOL - that's right, ours are better!
I guess we will have un-enthusiastically (that a word?) modify that article....till this is settled.

We'll just have to post the facts on our own wiki and link to it :

Thanks Jonathan. We all share a common interest in the Marauder, which truly is a great ride. A comment made by the person who has repeatedly chopped down the bulk of the entry was that Wiki was not an "enthusiast's" site. Maybe I'm misguided in this thought, but it's hard to imagine Wiki being added to (and managed by) non-enthusiasts assigning themselves the task of writing on topics they have absolutely no interest in. Being enthusiasts makes us the most likely candidates to take the time and care to flesh out the topic fully - we are also potentially more knowledgeable, and hopefully that would translate to an honest article that is also a good read.
And thanks to Red for setting up a site enthusiasts can participate in building.

Glad to do it. Now it's just a matter of getting people motivated. Once the bulk of information is collected, it should take only a small effort to maintain.

I'm with Leadfoot - changing (fixing?) Wikipedia entries does give you a "Hand Of God" feeling!
Plus, in my profession as a science consultant I have been able to tell a client something, and mention in passing that what I am saying is in general accord with the Wikipedia description - without mentioning that I wrote the description.
