i took a ride in my friends 2007 ford mustang gt (5spd) and its a real torquey car, and its doenst slouch on the get up and go. (he isnt really the greatest a quick shifting)
then i took him for a ride in the MM, and said that he thinks i will win.
All i have is the JLT cai, and i am running the 93 octane xcal3 from Lidio.
We want to go up to the track in april to play around, but if we really went at it for $50 or whatever, do you think i really got a shot?

It would be a good race. You said he isn't the greatest at shifting. I still might put my money on the GT though.

Was you the guy that had a bet with his boss?

He would have to miss a few gears for you to beat him...not very likely.

I raced my friends 07 GT at the track and I killed him all 4 times we raced. Not because my car is faster, its because he had a hard time getting the car off the line. A 5spd will easily level the playing field against a slower car if the driver can't shift.
I raced him from a roll at 45mph to 100mph., The first time he was in too high of a gear and I pulled away, the second time we had a dead even start and he edged me out slightly. Its really on the driver but I think you have a great shot at taking him from a dead stop.

Is his car stock? If it is you might have a shot if he misses a gear, if he has mods and hits all his shift he is going to win. Two cars with the same amount of power it comes down to the driver and the weight of the cars.

i have the JLT and xcal 3
he is all stock and slightly less than average at shifting
im thinking its gonna be close

Use your torque converter.

Well, I tend to disagree with the sentiment that the GT can just out run us from dead stop. I have only ran GT around here and all I have is exhaust but off the line I killed him bc of my reaction. But when we were rolling I forgot to turn off OD and he demolishem me. I believe that driver skill is somewhat part of it but mostl our cars are pretty even. Just my :twocents:.

Mustang runs high thirteens, your car might break a fourteen.
Hurry before he gets good at shifting!

My buddy has an 07 Mustang GT (5spd) with a CAI....I have a Lidio tune and CAI and he beats me everytime....from a roll....from a stop...but not by much....if he misses a gear you can beat him but if not....you wont beat him...if you have a better reaction time from the line you may edge him out....but you have to get a sizeable lead cause he can catch up quickly....if you hit fourth in OD and your still ahead of him....his fourth wont beat your fourth with OD.

you will lose, dont bother

Don't listen to these guys, and go for it. Bet the house on the race, and make sure to give him some good sound advice. Tell him to make sure he leaves the tree when the light goes GREEN. You just make sure you leave when the last yellow lights up.

The best time I've run in my 03 with Lidio tune, JLT, and 4.10's has been a 14.2. In January we went to the track with my wife's new 07 GT convertible with an auto, and she pulled me easily every time we ran. Her best time was an 13.89, and that was with only 1500 miles on the car. The gears and tune make it FEEL much quicker, but it still ain't no S197.

I guess my laundry list of mods is the reason why newer mustangs cant hang.
The new GT's have major bog off the line and require a lot of rev to get a good launch out of them, in the street that will lead to the rear tires going up in smoke. My friends 07 GT ran a 14.3 and that was his best time. Getting the car off the line was his issue.
Take the race!! He may be more involved in what your car is doing then to pay attention to what hes doing which will result in a lot of wheel spin and missed gears.
Go for it!!
I would go for it! Kinda reminds me of MMV right Paul! It was a good time.

If he can drive the Mustang he's got a .75 advantage.
You will need an excellent reaction time to a poor R/T for him and that he bogs it.
Good Luck and report back.

An inexperienced/poor shifter will have a hard time launching that car the way it needs launched. Use your TC and leave at the last yellow. He'll have to play catch up and might unless the nerves get him and he blows the shifting.
I used to run with an IRS Cobra at Moroso. Cool dude. We were similarly modded (NA). He 5spd. I pounded him on the launch every single time. I'd leave him by a car length, at least. Come 1/8 mile he'd be nearing my bumper and by 1000' we'd be neck and neck. He'd get me by about 1/2 a length every time. We joked and joked how the heavy car launched and the light car caught up. One would think the opposite!!!

A friend has a Cobra and can really drive it. I see him at the track.
I posted some of his times I had seen him run and some said baloney.
He joined just to post to prove otherwise.

If you a running a stock marauder with a tune and a intake against a stock gt with the 5.4 liter u should probably just race for fun and not for money, because the new gt is a smaller car with a slighty more power than a stock marauder so dont lose your money. I raced one and lost with the same setup before i got supercharged. Good luck:beer:

I would take the race! He will be very excited and will be trying real hard to beat you. I am pretty sure he will wind that car up in first and spin the tires when he hit's second gear........ask me how I know:depress:
Driving a stick car under pressure is a whole different experience! I say go for it:banana:

well if its a 4.6 liter you will walk all over him. don't fear the 4.6 gt mustangs as you will find in some of the forums there have been plenty of marauders beating the gt with the 4.6 liter engine:flamer:

All GTs are 4.6L motors.... The only Mustang with the 5.4 under the hood from the factory is the Shelby GT500 (my DREAM car....).

How the hell did you run a 14.2 with just those mods? I ran a 14.51 with those mods and an intake spacer.

There are so many factors involved that you should put your time in a correction calculator to get the real time. I have every bolt-on but full exhaust and my best E/T is a 14.017. My corrected time is a 13.600

There's a lot of variation, from one MM to the next... I've run several 14.2's, and only have a JLT, 4.10s and a Lidio Tune...

Not too many people drive stick well enough to out shift an auto. And a lot of guys who claim they could, probably really can't. I have driven fast cars stick for a while, and I'll be the first to admit, that an auto will no doubt shift a lot faster, and launch more predictably, than me driving stick.
Aren Jay

The only reason people who drive stick are so fast, is because they drop their clutch from 4-5K. Subie guys do it all the time, then limp to the dealership with no gears left and scream when their warranty is denied. Then they admit doing clutch drops online and their dealership reads about it.
One famous case was in California when some kid sued Subaru for not honouring thier warranty but was busted when Subaru USA pointed out he was bragging about doing 5K clutch drops on NASIOC. He lost his case and owed Subaru $86K in court costs. But that is another story.
