do you have a check engine light? it sound like bad O2 sensor/s or maybe a bad cat convertor

no check engine.. would check engine come on if the o2 was bad. also i get about 215 city miles to a tank of gas, is this average or low? i hardly beat on the car so i know its not from me stepping on it all the time. thanks..

Disconnect the negative terminal of your battery for about 5 minutes to "re-set" the PCM........you will notice the higher startup "flare" and your adaptive learning will have to settle in for your style of driving (may take a few days to settle down)!!

If that doesn't work I would suggest replacing the Idle Air Control valve (IAC) since it is in charge of idle RPM's and idle A/F adjustments!!

Good Luck!!

You might try cleaning the IAC first. Also clean the MAF. Get CRC MAF Cleaner from local FLAPS (Advance Auto Parts carries it here in FL). While you've got the battery disconnected, take the IAC off the throttle body and clean it very well with TB cleaner. Take the MAF off and spray it with the MAF cleaner.

Run SeaFoam in a full tank of gas. There is also a method of having it sucked out of the can by a TB-connected vacuum hose to get it applied at a higher concentration. I've read it's very smoky, but haven't tried it myself.

Use Chevron 93 octane - my car runs smoothest on that. The Techron additive in the gas helps keep injectors clean.

Also, my car (with 85K on it) idles a lot smoother now that I have added SS hose clamps to the vacuum hose between the PCV and TB. It used to get messy with oil due to WOT runs on I-4 (:D), and that slight leak apparently worked as a vacuum leak when at idle. Check all your other vacuum hoses, too. You can get a Fuel Pressure/Vacuum Gauge kit from Harbor Freight Tools pretty cheap, and can use that to see what vacuum level is at idle, and whether it's steady. The HF gauge has instructions which help a noobie (like me kind of) evaluate whether its likely there's a deeper mechanical problem. If it looks like there is, you could then take it in for service.

One of your earlier posts said you bought the car with a rebuilt title. I suggest you clarify exactly what caused the rebuild and what systems were affected - if any errors were made, or if work was sloppy, you could have issues related to that.

Do thread searches here to look for other suggestions, too.

Not necessarily, my front two were bad, and just enough so they wouldn't throw a CEL.
