As I get going on making my MM "mine" one of the things I want to do is to paint the calipers (I was going to use the G2 kit). Now my biggest decision is whether I should use red or silver on SB. What are your opinions and if you have examples of yours I would love to see 'em. Thanks in advance for your input.

I went with red on my SB. Here are a couple of pictures. It has held up pretty well. I used the Dupont Caliper paint kit for mine and put about 3 coats of paint on.

I did re-do them last spring as some had come off after a winter of use. Still holding up well now, but didn't drive the car this past winter.

Looks much redder in person than the pictures show:

BLACK would look really sharp on a Silver. Goes with the grill too!

Gotta Love It!:beatnik:

After you guys gave me such a hard time for my "stock" calipers in Crofton... ;) I think we need to have a CAM mini-meet/caliper painting party... I wish they made a kit in DTR but black may have to do...

I do not have a silver car...but I still say RED.

I used the G2 kit, which I must say beats the crap out of any rattle can application.

HINTS:
Read former threads, the old ones, where we posted great tricks and hints.

Get several extra detail brushes.

I was able to get 4 heavy coats on all four calipers before the can hardened.
This was done over a period of nearly 5 hours, with fans on the ones in between coats.

I did it on a day where the humidity was high, and the ambient temperature was around 62 degrees in the barn.

I left the car on jack stands for nearly 36 hours after the application for full and exact curing.

My calipers look as good as they did the day I did them now nearly 4 years later. They are easy to clean with windex, and twice a year I pull the wheels and clean all the hard to reach spots. (I was able to coat 90% of the calipers, even the unseen areas.)

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the input guys. I did the calipers on the L red with the G2 kit and was thinking silver on silver may look cool. I am also thinking about painting the grill silver as well. My fear with black is that it will just look stock and I am looking for a little more of a custom look....

Still on the bubble about the factory spoiler, but we'll leave that until later.

You could...

But this product was designed to be done with the car up on jack stands.
No need to mask anything, just have different sized brushes and plenty of them on hand.

Check it out: Eastwood G3 caliper paint.

I did Silver on my SB and I got brake caliper decals from Vinz Decals in red to go on the silver. The paint was brushed on from G2. I think the silver goes well and the red decals add mild red to the calipers.

Those are pretty cool. I always wanted to do lettering on the calipers. Did you go with a straight or curved decal set for the rotors fro Vinz?

Edit: Never mind. Looks like you get a total of 15 stickers: 5 curved, 5 3" straight, and 5 2" straight. All for $10. That is pretty cool. Should be enough to get all 4 calipers with the proper setup. Now, just to pick a font. (http://www.vinzdecals.com/)

Has anyone done blue callipers on a silver? Then follow up with the same blue for some of the other paintable parts under the hood.
Does anyone know the process of taking the callipers apart for powder coating. I know that all non metal parts have to be taken off so they dont melt but is that possible and how hard?

I went with these on the front of my black MM.

For the rear I have a spare set of calipers and PowerSlot rotors. I will be cleaning up the calipers to be red powdercoated and will also get the rotor hats powdercoated black. Will be installed with ceramic pads and SS brake hoses.

I'd recommend disassembling the calipers to get them powdercoated so your coater can do a good job. Powdercoating only needs to be baked for 15 - 20 minutes at 400 degrees so disassembly may not be necessary.

Which ever color you choose make sure you prep the h*ll out of the calipers and hats. The good looking calipers and hats in my gallery are no more. Water hose chased the paint away :(
