View Full Version : Bought a Trilogy!

Well, I'm happy to say that my Trilogy fund finally reached it's critical mass, and I went ahead and ordered the base Eaton kit from Jerry.

Since I live on the Canadian west coast near Vancouver, going to see Lidio isn't really an option, but I do have his base Trilogy tune in my Xcal2 ready to go.

I'll be doing a self install while down in Oregon doing some volunteer work at at a ranch that rescues abused horses, and has a program that allows abused kids in to help rehabilitate and socialize the horses. Any animal lovers/parents out there, buy the book "Hope Rising" by Kim Meeder, it's the story of the ranch. Don't like it? Send it to me and I'll buy it back from you!! Profits go to the ranch. (...stepping down off my soapbox...)http://www.motorcitymarauders.com/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif

I do have good back-up, as one of my friends down there deals with a great shop...the owner has a newer GT-40 and lots of other toys! I'll try to get some video, and will definitely get photos! I'm hoping for a dyno tune to fine tune a bit, as the generic tune Lidio gives is VERY safe to account for various production variables from car to car.. And a neighbour here has the newest (and last) SVT rig, the GT500. We've arranged to go for a run or two.http://www.motorcitymarauders.com/forums/images/smilies/up.gif

So why did I post this in the Garage forum? Well, a far better way to add power is to take weight away from your rig. Let's face it, more power only benefits acceleration and top end, but it also overstresses the stock brakes, stock suspension, and cooling. Taking weight away benefits brakes, cooling, handling AND acceleration. With this extra power, I'm looking at all options for more balance BESIDES the usual suspects (big brakes, Naakes, Griffen rad)

To that end, I'm looking to start a post (possibly a sticky if it's warranted) about shaving the pounds off our porky Panthers!http://www.motorcitymarauders.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

In addition to using easy solutions, I'd like to make some more involved things as well. With the obvious weight reduction from things like an gel battery (eg Optima) a mini spare as opposed to full size, minimal trunk crap, I'm very interested in fabbing some aluminum parts if weight savings are worth it.

Does anyone have access to factory parts for a weight check? A very popular thing in drag racing is to use aluminum bumper mounts/braces/inserts. Anyone have exploded diagrams of the front/rear bumper assemblies they can send me?

I know autocrossers who've swapped their factory steel nuts/bolts throughout the car to aluminum pieces, with as much as 80 pounds in savings, but it's not that cost effective so it's last on the list.

Any other ideas, please let me know!

Hopefully, I'm not violating any board policy about mentioning other vendors? For what it's worth, I do have a DR chip in my CVPI winter car!

Congrats on the new S/C! Welcome to the world of boost.

Weight reduction.... no spare, no jack, no cigarette lighter. That is how my daily driver runs :D

Congratulations!

You are going to be burning rubber.

Before I moved I laid rubber in front the house, 1 year and 5 months latter it looks like the day it was created.

Quick question: Is our tranny cooler up to the task, or do I need to install a secondary cooler? If so, where is the best mounting place?? I see the FRP catalog has one for $57, is that even worth putting on?

I searched threads, but didn't find anything Trilogy-oriented.

You should be fine stock. The base Trilogy kit is build to work with a normal Marauder setup.

That being said, an additional cooler is a benefit.

In other words, no you don't *need* one, but having one certainly wouldn't hurt - cooler trans temps are always a good thing, even on a stock MM.

Charlie (Defyant) has experience with installing one, I know he learned alot about them and where to mount them too.

Thanks, Breadfan! I was puzzled by one more thing concerning our trans. I thought our stock trans fluid (Mercon 5) was synthetic. Yet in Lidio's post about our transmission, he says he doesn't use synthetics, only "regular" fluids. Am I missing something, or was I misinformed?

I didn't realize our stock trans fluid was synthetic...I do know some have had issues with slippery synthetics such as AMSOIL MercV...

I thought our stock trans fluid (Mercon 5) was synthetic.

I didn't realize our stock trans fluid was synthetic...It's not.

Conoco-Phillips is (or was then) the fluid supplier and their Mercon V, which is also bottled as Motorcraft, is a mix of Group II+ and Group III base stocks so it's more correctly a synth-blend.

The kit won't ship until mid-April, Lidio had to order some parts that still need to come in. I'll be doing the install in Oregon late April.:)
