Hey guys,

I have just picked up my marauder and I was wondering what work has already been done on it. It has kook headers, and the rest of the exhaust system looks news. - I will post some pics to see if someone can ID it as OEM or aftermarket.

How could I tell if the car had gears installed? Or a tune? I mean shy of just driving it and saying it feels faster. I wasnt sure if there is something I should look for me - like a pcm slice for a piggy back or driving characteristics for gears.

I dont want to spend more money if the previous owner did it all.

Thanks,
Eric

At 65, my MM stock is at 2000 RPM... it would be a little higher if it had 4:10's in it in lieu of the 3.55

Odds are NO tune...I would imagine that the previous owner took it out so he could sell it and make more money...As for a chip...look at the EEC...above (left) of the brake pedal...you would see the chip sticking out (taped to the EEC) of the EEC...

As for the gears...jack up the rear...count how many times the drive shaft turns, to one complete revolution of the tire...

If drive shaft turns 2 3/4 turns for one turn of the tire...you have 4:10's...if more @18 times...you have 3:55's (stock)

Good luck...

Well if it had a tune with a handheld like an sct or diablo and the previous owner didn't sell it with the car then most liokely he returned it to stock ,otherwise the handheld is worthless to him,the Kooks are a big investment so your way ahead there, just make sure you retorque the header bolts every couple of months.
the easiest and least accurate way to see if it had 4:10's installed is to put a jack under the rear pumpkin put the car in neutral and rotate the passenger tire around once and count how many times the drive shaft goes around if ts 4 times i would say you have 4:10's I could have other ratios, stock would be 3 1/2 times, but its very rare to see other rations in these big cars. You can make a chalk mark on the driveshaft for easy counting and don't forget to chock those front wheels!
Some of the transmission mods are EXternal you need to crawl under and look for added plumping.

Thanks guys - once the dealer puts the factory radio in I will be receiving ownership of the car. I will try both the driveshaft and the 65mph method...not at the sametime of course.

Well this is a stupid way to find out if you have 4:10s, I noticed when I was doing a brakestand with the stock 3:55s in it, it took like 10 seconds to work itself up to like 3500 rpm's but with the 4:10s it is much faster like not even 5 seconds. That's just me I do things the easy and stupid way

I want to get a few oil changes in the car before i lite up the tires!

My ol buick had a lockout of like 2k rpms with brakestands. What do our autos cap out?

At 68.32 mph i'm right in the middle of the 2000 rpm mark. I'm totally stock, except for my snow tires.

For gears chalk and a lift will tell you what you have.
there is also a rpm to speed chart somewhere.

For other parts open your hood and take pictures and post them here.

Take pictures while it is on the lift and we can tell you what else it has.

What is the idle in park and in gear?
