View Full Version : Nissan 350z kill?

So I'm driving home on Easter on 159th in Orland Park and in my rearview mirror I see a car weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. Of course, I speed up closer to the car in front of me so the car cant cut me off and continue on it's way. So the car pulls along side of me and I notice it's a young preppy kid driving a Nissan 350z. He gets room in front of the car that's in front of me and takes full advantage. So I figure why not. I go in the right lane and follow him out and get a lead on him because he gets caught behind some traffic. He then gets some room and we are driving side by side at about 40mph with a clear road ahead of us. I punch it and destroy him up to 80mph. I think he hit it as well but I was up by over a car length. So I'm not sure if I won because I dont know how much effort he put in to it. But if he punched it and I won legit, that's pretty impressive. I would have figured a 350z would kill me. I do have a few mods which leveled the playing field a bit. I'm sure if we raced off the line he'd probably take me, but I was happy. Any thoughts?

My friend has a 350z and that thing is nothing stock. My brother's WRX smokes it on a daily basis - but his WRX is putting 252whp and 265wyq down. He ran 13.1 with a 2.4 60 foot for pete sake!

I'm pretty sure with your tune and 4.10's you'd have a 350z. Everyone forgets they have the same motor as the Maxima (3.5l) theres a kid at work with a Maxima with the tiptronic, gotta admit it's pretty quick for a 4 door, but the MM always comes out on top.

I would say that the 350z motor is used in pretty much every nisan car from the Z to the quest. I do not think it takes away from the engines power or capabilities.

I love how the Nisan quest is a chip and a tune away from a 350z now thats funny!

350Z
306 HP(6800RPM) 268 TQ 3400lb Manual

MM
302 HP 318 TQ 4200lb Auto with 2800 stall.

Seems to me the MM would jump out with the torque multiplication advantage of the TC and the 350 would play catch up.

From a roll, weight matters little. I still think the MM would jump out, especially if stabbed and down-shifted. Then would maintain whatever lead was gained.

A slightly modded MM, esp w/4.10's CAI, tune.. the basics... would easily scorch a stock 350z.

Our stock, and especially, upgraded TC's level the playing filed when it comes to weight.

I some how ended up playing with one that sounded like it had an intake and exhaust. We didn't take off from the light but stayed next to each other to about 50 mph and then he got on and all I ended up doing is spinning tires since it was wet out. I didn't even punch it, just gave it 60-70% throttle.

Having a 3500 stall has its ups and downs, that would be a down time lol. I did how ever freak him when I pulled into the State Police Barracks to drop something off and then caught back up with him at the next light. He did exactly the speed limit for the next 2-3 miles as I stayed at his rear quarter panel.

from a roll, the mm should kill a z.

adam and i test drove one with the six speed...from a stop, the z would probably take the lead. but accelerating in 4th...not so much. even if he downshifted, you would win.

Depends on if it was an older 350z or a newer. Older one I would say you had it hands down, newer one I don't know much about them so I can't really say. The older ones were rated at 286 I think and the newer ones I guess are rated at 306 like magindat posted.

Send those Ricer's up to Timmins Ont. Canada. I'll kill 'em all. I don't have the Samuriai Sword but I have a Marauder with BIG BALLS. I'll send them back home with a sack of Uncle Ben's Rice as an afterthought.

Yeah, I'm not sure what year it was. It was a convertible, though, and I dont recall what years they were available. I've got to think he was trying, though. You dont get your car up to 80mph just to keep up and not try and win. Too bad I couldnt have tried racing him from a stop. Sounds like that would have been more interesting.
