View Full Version : Scratched Rim

I just went and had new tires put on my rear rims and specifically went to the GoodYear dealer that has the machine that changes the tires without scratching the rims.......and of course they scratched the one!
Tried to fight me on it but when I showed them my 3 other rims, which are in excellent shape, not much they could say about it. So they finally agree they will replace it.
My question for the people here is how do I know if I get a real Ford Marauder Rim or one of those cheap ebay/knock-off ones? Is their an easy way to tell the difference? Is their a way to tell if it has been reconditioned. Would that be okay?
They just did it today and the tire dealer says they ordered me a new one and it will be in tomorrow. Does this sound like it could come that quick from a Ford Dealership/Distribution center? I am in Chicago so I know they have a distribution center near Chicago but that seem awful quick.
Would like to hear your suggestions/opinions on this matter.

Stampings on the inside should match up with what you have.

Hi Mercman,
It's been a long time since I talked to you! I hope you are doing well!
I was thinking about the box thing already but I am sure if it is a cheapy/aftermarket one they will probably get rid of the box asap. The guy that did it knew he did it. He pulled my car out and purposely backed it into a space in front so I could not see the side the rim was scratched on. To say my trust factor is a little shot with these guys is an understatement.
That's why I was hoping there might be a set of numbers/weld marks or something that I could use to determine if this is one of our good rims not an aftermarket one.

Or get the rim yourself and have them reimburse you.
The markings are on the inside of the spokes

Thanks guys for all your replies....I will match up the new wheel markings with the one I have and see if it matches. If it doesnt we are going to have a problem........I already asked them about buying a new rim myself and they told me they couldnt due it as they have to turn it into their insurance company to handle.
Were all of our rims made at the same time or have the same number stamped on the spokes? This is what it sounds like to me.
I remember Sergeant Mac saying something about some being forged and some being cast but these where in discussions on this forum a long time ago and I might be confused on this issue.
Anyway, thanks guys for all your help and I appreciate it!

They might order a Mustang Rim (MM wheel on the v6 Sport Package)
I dont think the centercap will fit that wheel.

That's what I was thinking to Zack. Ford sells an awful lot of Mustangs and I am sure they have parts for them all over the place.
It just seems like they are getting this rim a little to fast for a car that has not been built in almost 4 years.....It should be an interesting experience tomorrow.
I really want to be an optimist but that's how I got into this position to begin with!
The next time I hear someone tell me about their $20,000 tire changing machine....................... .......................:censor :

I am going to go down to my Ford dealer mechanics and kiss all their greasy little faces today. They have done two complete tire set replace/rebalance/alignment and replaced one damaged tire for me with NO scratching.
Now, if only I could stay away from the curbs my shiny wheels would all stay pristine forever....
