A collector bought it to put in a museum. I heard that the agreement with Ford was that the car could never be licensed or driven on public streets.

Car has no title and can NEVER be driven. I belive a dealer in SC (?) bought it? Money went to a good cause:up:

It seemed that so many potential Marauder owners waited for the convertible to come out, that by the time the realized Mercury wasn't going to build one, they stopped making the MM altogether. I know of a few people who thought that Mercury would wait a couple of years before they built the convert. But unfortunately the MM never made it that far.

I believe all concept cars that do not hit production get crushed.

Too much liability rolling around when the dealerships did not build and test to car to safety standards. Also the lack of replacement parts and such.

Indeed, some dealer, I heard he was from New Hampshire or some other high up New England state though, bought it and has it in his personal museum, and that its a 2 valve modular.

Its a beautiful car, but the more I live with my sedan the more I love having a hard top above my head, and wouldn't have bought it, though a 2 door coupe, now that's another story

correct. the salvage yard i work at had to crusha prototype land rover. they would even give us the keys to move it. too much liability.

We could make one with a Crown Vic.

Coupe or Convertable.

Anybody good with making a steel body, or perhaps a fiberglass body, and or later on have a carbon fibre body made up.

A carbon Fibre Marauder Coupe would likely really move.

The words Marauder or CrownVic should not even be together in the same sentence as convertible. :puke:

I used to work for the owner of the dealership that bought it. They spent a lot of time finishing the electrics and all to make the windows and other stuff work. Then he had someone make a top for it. It was here outside the Philly area for a little while, but I think he ended up selling it. I know he now sports around in a Shelby GT500. He has or used to have a few rare Ford products.

Wasnt this one supposedly supercharged or something allowing it at least 330hp?

stanchfi

press release said supercharged 335hp, though i remember the ebay auction saying it was limited to 15mph.....what a waste

I'd rock it if it had TooManyFord's blower sticking out the hood, lowered and had the real MM wheels on it, Trilogy bodykit would also help.

Not for me in my opinion - it would be like the seabring a sorry excuse for a convertiable. The Marauder is not a sports car and neither is the seabring.

I consider the Marauder a sedan with some pep in her step. But sports car? No way.

Feel free to believe whatever your 25 year old heart desires.;)

However, feeling the need to question the membership as to what we know as fact is pretty much a waste of time and likely no one here will have the desire to "prove" anything further.

Most of us hated this car anyway.
It was funny to see it on eBay back in the day.

Sorry you missed it.

love the wagon! Reminds me of the Dodge Magnum...I love the magnum.

I'm partial on the convertible though.

And one more example that ford doesn't always crush the prototypes....the Super Coupe Club of America (SCCoA....tbird club) owns, as a club, a prototype of a 1989 all wheel drive tbird sc. It has Porsche parts, BMW parts...whole bunch of one-off stuff. The club acquired it from a company and the deal was (as stated before) that the car was NEVER to be driven on a street. Good deal if you ask me in order to preserve a piece of history.

Nope never even made it to ink and paper. Just from a brilliant and imaginative mine of an MM owner.
