I was so pissed off at this car last night. I go down to Wendys to get some food to bring back to the house and just eat and relax for the evening. I get my food and get into the car and I put the key in the ignition and it wouldn't turn. I walked back to my house in the rain(luckily I don't live too far). Walked back to the car with a different set of keys just for s***s and giggles and it still didn't work. I called the hook to come and grab it and bring it the 1/4 mile back to my house. I go into Wendys and have a seat waiting for the tow truck for 20 minutes and decided to go back out and try it. I put the key into the ignition and it moved like butter with no effort at all. I brought it back to the house and it is fine now (I tried it a hundred times in the driveway).

What could have been the issue? I am very good with cars so I don't need the obvious reasons because I tried all of those. Think one of the tumblers in the ignition might have gotten jammed up or something? Do you think I need to replace my ignition?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Were your front wheels turned at all, if they were you probably engage the steering wheel lock.

I cranked the steering wheel all over trying to unlock it... I don't think it was that

You would have to turn the steering wheel in the same direction that the wheels are turned in, and turn the ignition at the same time to release.

This happens to me once in a while too. Seems all newer Fords do it on occasion. Just gotta fiddle with it. My 90 Lincoln did it, the 2002 Sable does it and the Marauder does it.

Usually pull out the key, flip it over, turn wheel one way of the other and try again.

Believe me... I did all that... nothing worked and then I just figured I would try it again and it turned without me doing anything... LIKE BUTTER!!!

I think it was the prayer I said!!:bows:

I found that out last night when I could turn the wheel trying to free up the ignition... I was like "I don't even think this has a locking steering wheel anyways" Must be just a crappy ignition

The factory Marauder manual shows the components for a locking system. I know on a FORD it is hard to engage the lock when you want to do it. My GM has it, but when the key is out of the ignition you have to turn pretty far left or right to engage it. It almost feels like your going to break something in the column.

Anybody out there want to try it on their Marauder, and let us know ?

The MM steering wheel does not lock. Since we have the PATS security feature.

My MM ignition cylinder gets stuck and won't turn pretty often. I just chalk it up to another cheesy part Ford used on these cars. I have to take the key out, turn it over, jiggle it, then it works. Probably happens 1 out of every 25 times I start it.

I must be pretty lucky,it's never happened to my 91 GM,98 Expy,2003 Expy,2003 Taurus,96 Cougar,2003 GM or my 2003 MM.

Mine did that once after I got the remote start on it and I thought it was form that, but I learned to push the black "guide" in a little then turn the key...Has not happened since.

The Marauder Column does not lock.
That happened on my Marauder w/6000 miles on it. Locksmith found 1st tumbler stuck. Reason first notch on key was very high jammed tumbler. Ford replaced cylinder.

It will let you down again. Get it replaced ASAP. As far as I know, it is not a common thing in the Marauders at all.

Also, fast food will make you fat and cause your arteries to harden.:)

I bought the car with 52000 on it from a Ford Dealership... got the 3 year 36000 mile extended warranty... will that cover the replacement of the ignition?

It all depends on which contract you bougt. I think it might only be covered by FORD Premiumcare (the top plan).

You need to spray graphite in the cylinder from time to time just like with any other car. If you carry a small rubber hammer to beat on the steering column and juggle the tumblers a little. Make sure your shifter brake interlock stuff is all fully engaged etc... Remember these cars are going on to 6 years old and were built during the decontenting cycle.

Recently MPA stickers were serialized and they can run the number to see if was assigned to you...then the R ratings for you begin in the radio talk. Rzero is a worthless POS thru Rnine which is a OK almost bro. Mass troopers make more on details than on the job a $200000000 a year boondoggle.
