Looking for a Black Marauder, but I have a few questions. I've been looking for the past month, however, I'm curious about a few things. How tempermental are these Marauders, per reading a few postings, sounds like I may have to tinker here and there with it?

Also,
What is a?
XCAL2
DTR
300A vs. 300B
How much tuning is involved?

Lastly, how can you tell if the Marauder has traction control, I thought all of them did?

Any other advice?

Very interested in finding one, just trying to do my homework first.

Spend some time using the search feature and you will find answers to all your Marauder related questions. It's easy to use.

1. 300A vs. 300B info here >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=31102

2. DTR = Dark Toreador Red MM (only 980 made and all are '04s)

3. XCAL2 is a handheld tuner available from some of the vendors on the site. Other tuners are available.

4. All '03 300Bs have traction control. All 2004s have traction control (and all 2004 MMs are 300As). There is a traction control button on the dashboard to turn T/C "Off".

XCAL2 Handheld Tuner that plugs into the OBD2 port for improved performance
DTR - Dark Torreador Red, one of the colors produced (Just under 1000)
300A vs. 300B Production code. 2003 had 300a and 300b, 2004 had 300a only. 300a was the 'first batch' and had more features. Search for 300a vs 300b, as there is a sticky thread explaining the differences.
How much tuning is involved? None required, at least some recommended:burnout:

Lastly, how can you tell if the Marauder has traction control, I thought all of them did? There will be a traction control switch

Any other advice? Get one now, but be forewarned that future mods will happen, regardless of your willpower.

I have a 2004 with no of the features of a 300A...

For Example:

300A's were the first issue of Marauders they were all black and had the following equipment...

Auto release fuel door - Mine is just open and thats it
In-dash Clock - No clock....probably in the radio that doesnt exist
Map pockets in the front seats - Nope?
Full size spare - I have a donought
Auto Release Parking brake - What is this?
Windshield tint
Hood light
4R70W Transmission - I thought 2004's had a strong transmission
Single engine knock sensor - I thought we had dual
Black Valve covers - Mine are silver or natural
2400 Stall convertor

Are we sure on all this 300a and 300b nonsense? And if all 2004 were 300A?

.....

Are you looking for one? Have one? or Just Trolling?

All 2004 MMs were 300A's. They have the same features as '03 300B's.

And yes, we are sure about it !!

Charlie's right on this one.

Now if you really want to get confused, ask questions about "pre-decontented 300B's," or the EOY 2003 models that got "clean-up parts" (like mine with a full-size spare.)

Um...I have a 2004 and I defintely do not have a full size spare or a clock in the dash.

And I was under the impression that in 2004 mercury upgraded the transmission to a 4r75w

Let me see if I can clearify:

Majority of 2003 are 300A

Later that year they changed to 300B

2004 are all 300A( which are by accessories 300b but are called 300A )

with a little gray area at the end of 2003 where a a mix of parts were used.

:DNow to the important stuff..... Who's on first, what's on second, and I don't know is on third.:D

Yes, 04 A's had the same stuff as 03 B's.

03 A's have a clock in dash and full size spare, you dont meaning you dont have the same stuff as an 03 A.

They forgot to tell you that only 04s are the real Marauders. 03s are titled as GMs, 04s are titled as Marauders. So 03s save on the cost of insurance.

thats a load of BS, when i first got my '03 300a (the best ones) and the ins lady put in the vin, i was saying im my head, maybe it will say grand marquis instead of marauder, that would be cheaper. That didnt happen, the typed in the VIN and asked what is a "MOR-OU-DUR"

What does your title say?

What does your title say?I believe that the title does say GM, but, the VIN still shows that it is a MM, My StateFarm agent knew that it was a MM, when I put it in on 06-26-02. Although the insurance still isn't bad at just under $200/half

And they are really not finnicky until you start tuning them. You can tinker all you want, or just leave it alone.

I think the 2004 have fewer overall 'issues':
1) Stronger Tranny (2004 revisions)
2) No head ticks (not Lice)
3) No rear axle issue (Some '03 had soft axles)
4) Dual knock sensors (not knockers you perv)
5) Generally no 'foggy' headlights
6) Maybe less occurance of wiper malfunction? (not sure about this one)

Not completely true in all cases. My insurance company has my '03 MM listed as a Marauder and the insurance code in the policy paperwork clearly shows it as a performance vehicle. The premium is reflected accordingly.

Make sure you thoroughly check the CV joints. These cars are NOTORIOUS for eating up CV joints.

Ever since i joined this site i was told my car was a 300B now youre saying its an A . When did this change happen???

2003 300a's had the dash clock etc. 2003b's lost all that stuff. This continued into 2004, which only made one 'run' of marauders.
