View Full Version : Run down with a Mazda
Was driving in the middle lane on the 3-lane highway on the way to classes today on my usual route and was about 2 or 3 miles to my exit. When out of my peripheral I see this silvery Mazda 6 run up and jump in and out in front of me to get around a driver in the slow lane, and also noticing that he's got the parking pass to my college hanging from the rear view. 'A little fun before class' I though to myself.
I quickly lean the gas to the floor (I rarely ever stomp it) and chase. I FEEL the engine take a deep breath from the JLT as the tires dig into the recently paved (a couple months ago) highway. I quickly make up the distance fast and I was startled when it jumped into 4th and I almost drove through the guy, so I hold at about 2-3 car lengths, despite his accelerating, waiting for lane next to me to open up. I see a long opening coming up and call up for more throttle only to feel the 4th jump in then back out as the car slows slightly, I try again and the same, I look down and notice that I'm doing about 115 near 6K and I remember the limiter and also that 2-3 miles go pretty quick at those speeds so I drop back and brake as I see the exit in the distance.
We both take the exit and part ways at the light just past it and he must have been thinking I was the PD as he didn't even look my way after.
And I gotta say, it was like the car really woke up when I let the hammer down, and and this maybe just me but she rolled like a proud trotting horse afterwards, like it really cleaned out the engine from that run. Also, I don't know much on the Mazda 6 but was this a good match? I know I had more to give, but he had position, and I was wary of going fast on public highway, I make an effort not to speed unless I'm very alone.
P.S. WOOHOO my second flag!

If it was a normal Mazda 6 - it wasnt worth your time. Those are V6 220hp and slow as all hell.
If it was a Mazdaspeed 6 then yes it would of been a good kill/match. Those are 271hp and AWD. But its built by mazda and they gave the car a top mount intercool and no hood scoop or cowl. So it gets heat soaked in 15 minutes and runs like ass.
Just be safe out there - not worth racing in traffic and getting killed or hurt or a ticket. I would take it to a track.

Get a tune and you'll be good to over 140...........
Mine stock, cut out at about 127. I learned a Lexus, whos driver ran out of balls at 120!

Indeed, but I don't remember which it was, and I didn't go all fast and furious on public streets in broad daylight, just let the engine stretch its legs a bit, though a 1 ticket would put me out for a while.

Mine might have topped out a round there but I was already off by the time I checked the gauges

I don't understand why it was in 4th at 115 unless you were only at part throttle or is this a rev limiter thing? I hit 3rd at 96mph and all the way up to 125 were i ****ed out myself and my car never hit a limit, but i've heard that it ranges from 117 to 127 so i guess that i was right at it. And that is also why my 1/4 mile time sucks because i go through the trap at 94 in second like its an old powerglide. So once again is this 4th gear thing related to the rev limiter? What exactly happens when you reach the limit?

Not sure if you ever flelt "valve float" but it feels a lot like that.
The EEC cuts fuel at the prescribed speed. So you get fuel on/off.
Unlock that with your tune, and you are limited to RPM, Coeficent of drag vs HP, Road or Ballz. Whichever comes first....

[QUOTE=Eric-Blk2004;602507]V6 mazda runs the quater in 15.7 stock - thats slow man.
That's a half second or less than a WHOLE lot of Marauders ran stock.

Its .5 seconds slower than the average 03 marauder.
Isnt 15.7 about what an 03+ CV runs?

I would have to agree those Mazda's pretty quic; I had one keeping up with me (2k Mustang GT; gears, exhuast) going up to Tahoe. Very suprised I couldnt pull away in the stang.

Maybe I miss spoke but, I looked by the time I had began to get off the throttle and slow down. My eyes were glued to the road at those speeds, and rightfully so I should say.:D
There not THAT slow
Indeed. :o
Nice kill bro.
Thanks man, glad to have at least one, solid pat on the back

Bet he must have got the same feeling, how could a heavy black 4-door sedan have kept up so well?!? heh.

Mazda sedans are one thing but be aware the Miata may have a mustang 5.0 in it. Friend of mine over in monroe LA his son in law has one and they are scary quick.
that said good decision to back off when you did no kill is worth an accident

I'm actually looking into one of those myself. The idea of a quiet sleeper miata is just plain sick. Sorry but i don't know how to add videos yet but you really need to look up monster miata on youtube and also stacy davids banshee project on gears tv. I'm sold on it.

My idea of a quiet sleeper is an LS1 converted RX-7, I'd like to do one in my lifetime. Those things are downright mean.

The grampa mobiles wish they were that fast stock. The cop package CV does 0-60 in over 8 seconds, which translates to an over 16 second 1/4

Yeah I never said marauders were fast...
I got the car for a crusier and I am here because some dude put exhaust on it and I need to figure out how much that effects the A/F ratio's.
Sorry but if I want to throw 8k into a car it better run faster then 13 weight or no weight. I am not knocking on anyone who does - its just not why I bought the car.

Good to know I'm not the only one who feels like Eric. People can appreciate the car for whatever reason they want, as long as it makes them happy. It's not my only car either.
