Wondering about the Denso plugs that Dennis recommends and sells:

The Marauder's been running a little rough and getting lower gas mileage. Yesterday I pulled a couple of the plugs to have a look. They both have some green build up on the electrodes. Looks kinda like what nature does to copper I think.

I had no idea how to - or even if they needed cleaning so I just put them back in.

Could this be a sign that the engine is running a bit rich?

Anybody know what normal wear looks like on these puppies? I've got about 4,000 miles on 'em...

Base area should be black.
Center ground electrode, clean no build up.
Porcelin, white,no color or build up.Watch for "pepering"on porcelin this indicates detonation.

All plugs should look the same.

A story......

Like you I had a little roughness so I pulled the plugs for a look.
All fine except #4(rear most on right side).
But before I got to the plug I noted WATER around the coil.Blew out water and pulled plug.
The base,or threaded area was clean,By clean I meen nothing on it,looks like it was never installed.
Just to troulble shoot I moved that plug to #3,and the coil to #1.
Put it all back together and everything was fine.

cyclone03,

Thanks for the feedback. You've got me really wondering now...

I pulled the front 2 plugs on the right (psngr) side. Didn't see any water. The ends of the threads on both had a black, flaky looking build-up on them. Both the center and "top" electrode had the green "plaque" or whatever it is. The first plug was slightly worse off than the second.

After only 4K miles I expected them to look better.

You know that could be the gas your using.
Do you always us the same brand/station?
Try switching if you want.
More than likely nothing is wrong.

As for water, look for a white residue around the coils.
