Has anyone tried these or seen these?

http://www.jegs.com/p/JEGS/973034/10002/-1?source=home&coll=item12&pos=12

They claim 15-20% more spark over stock.

Whether or not that is true...

They cost $30 each.

RockAuto has the Motorcrafts for $42 each.

So they're cheaper than Motorcrafts, and may be a good aftermarket alternative to a cheap OEM knockoff.

Perhaps a very minor performance or driveability increase too?

I wonder how the connectors are made?

I thought I heard some people with issues with Granetelli COPs, could these perhaps be an alternative?

If you have a COP go bad, can you run one of these with 7 originals?

Lot's of questions I know!

PS. SOHC version is $25 each. Maybe a good aftermarket replacement for any SOHC Fords too.

I am interested in this too. I am hesitant to go w/ anything Granatelli makes because they made an aftermarket MAF for 3rd gen TPI camaro/firebirds that was a horrible piece of crap that has been mostly abandoned by the aftermarket. Their COP parts are probably fine but I am nervous after their TPI MAF.

Sumit Racing sells Accel COPs for 2V & 4V mod motors also. They do work but I haven't picked up a set yet. The OEMs appear to be working fine so far.....

Changed out my OEM's to Granatelli's. I have noticed a slight misfire at idle every now and then, not sure if its the COP's but I did get a "check engine" light the other day. I stopped by the local Advance Auto and had them check the code and it said something about coil/ignition with a number P0351 don't have the notes handy but I think that is what it said. Anyway I think I am going to replace the coil packs. Anxious to read any feedback on alternative COP's. Just turned 80k over the weekend! I can't leave it parked more than a few days

The MSD page only lists for SOHC, and JEGS had listing for both SOHC and DOHC (different part #'s) - I take it there is a difference, is it just the boot construction?

Reference my install thread of the Granatelli Connector install.

I took some good closeups that may help?

Which are you guys referring to ? The Jegs or Summit or both?

Yeah, we should compose a list of ones that don't suck, if there are any...or maybe Wes has already done that.

Would be nice to get a good reliable higher output coil for less money than OEM.

It's GREAT to dream atleast!

There is nothing wrong with the factory coil. In fact, people start complaining about misfires and coil failure after they replace the OEMs.

I agree though they're not the cheapest in price. Luckily $42 isn't bad, I think some dealers charge $85/piece.

People complain about the "ball point pen" spring. Why, because it looks silly? If it works, it works. I think I've heard of one burn up contact w/ the spring.

I think the main concern is two fold:

- Too thin gauge to carry lots of current, a larger guage connection would in theory carry current better

- Thin and fragile could break after repeated removal/installations (never heard of anyone breaking one though)

I think the granetelli connectors proved to be decent, whether or not there were any gains is up in the air, so far just subjective results no dyno results.

I'm pretty sure the EE's working for ford figured out how much current that spring needs to carry. Unless someone can prove why it's undersized, I'm leaving them alone.

I have not bought them yet but Weapon X makes great products and I will be buying a set of the cheaper ones with a set of the vented valve covers. I don't need the Ultra high performance ones since I'm still N/A with hardly any mods. When iI'm ready the set for $240 will be the perfect upgrade. It won't cost too much and it's a great start for other mods.

Re: the WeaponX system, I would have a lot more faith in their product if they didn't make claims like this: "Because of this, not only have customers realized anywhere from 10 to 200rwhp* using our equipment but many customers have reported fuel mileage increases as much as 3 miles to the gallon meaning this is an investment that pays for itself in months."

I hate gimmicky advertising!! It can ruin my perception of what is most likely a fine product

This thread started as discussion of aftermarket COPS that are available,
and any experience with them. It was not a discussion about the spring
connectors, those have been covered in other threads.
With reference to your statement above I would guess that it is about
half right - because my guess (as an engineer ) that yes they designed
them to carry the current but they were likely told by the bean counters
to make it work as cheap as possible. Probably why there is such a
difference between stock and aftermarket, not only in design but price also.
And if the stock parts work for you that's fine, I didn't see anyone
twistin' your arm to change 'em.

I use WeaponX, no problems in over a year and the first time I started the car I could tell the idle was smoother. Tom
