Like many have said, it's all personal preference really. I'm pretty sure all members here use either 5w20/5w30. I run w20 myself, and I only use Royal Purple, Lucas, or Mobil 1, but recently I've been just using RP instead. A majority I believe run the stock Motorcraft filter, I use that myself. Others say you can use th WIX/Napa Gold filters without any problems. It's been said 1000 times, DON'T USE FRAM! ;)

You should use what your owners manual tells you to use.

It's personal choice again, if you'll feel better knowing full synthetic is in there, put in full.

switch to full synthetic or just regular? You asked that exact question, and it was answered, in this (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43224) thread earlier this morning.
Reading your own threads and doing a little searching can save you a lot of time...

I have always ran regular oil in all my cars including my race cars.
Castrol GTX 5/20 and a Mobil filter would be fine.
Under $25

I have been using Pennzoil Platnum 5W20 in winter and 5W30 summers. Either K&N or Motorcraft Filter. Works like a charm!

Again, I like to use the oil that the manufacturer recommends to use as they were the ones who built the engine and know what kind of oil is necessary for it to perform at max. when I used other oils and other filters, I always seemed to get some engine knock at start up and low rpms. I switched back at the dealers recommendation and the knock stopped completely.

Chuckle, surely you don't believe that $1.69/qt synthetic blend is the best oil out there just because Ford recommends it. Oh well.

I've used Mobile 1, Royle Purple, Amsoil, Ford Syn Blend and Royle Purple XLR Racing Motor oil. In my opionion the Mobile 1 and the Royle Purple XLR Motor oil is the best. But it boils down too how you feel about how your cars runs afterwards. I always use a K&N oil filter.

To answer the question....
Read the oil cap.

5W20 Royal purple with either a Motorcraft or K&N oil filter. Works for me.

Isn't the manufacturer recommendation to use 5w20, for a stock engine?
And to get maximum fuel economy.
Isn't it safer to use high quality fully synthetic 5w30 for a high performance engine.

I tend to run Mobil1 5W20 with a Purolator PureOne filter. So far so good. My engine is stock except for a K&N fipk though.

No. It may make you FEEL better, but the fact is that Motorcraft 5W-20 has been demonstrated time after time to be an excellent robust oil that does very well in the Ford modular motors. OTOH, in a modified motor with forged internals and forced induction, a synthetic 5W-30 may very well be a better choice.
