Can anyone give me a part number for the Magnaflow Hi flow catalytic convertors that everyone is useing? I started looking on Jegs and there are too many flavors to choose from for me to decide, there are two way three way three way with air and so on and on... Anyone who can help please do so. Thankx!

Nothing this new that I can think of uses an AIR line... those were big in the 80s. The 3 ways use AIR

Thise are good numbers thankx a million... BTW Does anyone have an opinion on Spun Metallic verses Ceramic honeycomb sunstrate? I am not sure I understand the differences (other than price)? Any thoughts there?

Good question, I'd like to hear a scientific answer because I'll be in the market for cats soon. The spun metallic is advertised as flowing better than ceramic honeycomb, that's about all I know.

I have some information posted on the spun, metallic substrate catalytic converter by MagnaFlow/Car Sound in this thread (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?p=596222). You can see them installed on my car here (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=42639). Typically, the substrate (core) is a ceramic honeycomb, which has thicker walls and therefore less flow. The metal core allows for thinner walls (more surface area and catalyst) and higher flow. Additionally, metal provides a more durable and rigid structure than the ceramic, heats quicker, and transfers the heat more efficiently.

Mine are two Magnaflow Converters, PN 94006, at $105.95 each from the local muffler shop. I have the Kooks headers & related pipe that the convertors were welded into.

I know it's best to do the full exhaust all at one time, but if one were to start with the cat converters, how much gain would be seen?

The gains are so small that they could be attributed to a number of factors. Some mustang guys claim a couple HP by removing cats, so assuming you'd be replacing both cats with one high flow, you might get a HP or two.

Why would you replace 2 cats with 1 high flow cat? I thought the best thing to do was delete the rear cats and repalce the other 2 cats with 2 high flow cats.

Sorry, I may not have been clear. I was referring to replacing both cats [per side] with one high-flow cat [per side].

Ah, I see. Thanks for clearing it up. So what would I put in place of the rear cats, just pipes?

Eventually I'd like to have the full kooks exhaust system with headers and everything. I dont know if you can buy that system piece at a time, but that would be best for me because I'm not very good at saving money. If I could buy piece at a time, I'd sit on all of it and have it installed when I get the whole system. If I cant buy piece at a time, I'll just do my best at saving and try not to waste my money on stupid things.

You can definitely buy the headers by themselves. I started my exhaust upgrades with the headers and had temporary piping made to hook up the headers to the stock exhaust. I ordered (and waited on back-ordered) catalytic converters and shopped around for midpipes and mufflers, listening to hundreds of setups online and at the track. I then finally decided on the type and brand of muffler. Next, I went looking for places with a Mandrel bender (few and far between), found one and cut a good deal with them including the cost of the mufflers, and had the new catted midpipes made and mufflers installed. I decided to stick with the stock tailpipes and tips, as I didn't see an advantage to swapping them out, especially considering the cost.
