View Full Version : Still Drawing Comments like it was New
Bluerauder

What is it about the Marauder that seems to draw people out -- and they just have to comment. Happened twice today again.
Going through the main gate at work one of the gates guards said "Man, you want to sell me that car?" I just gave him a "Yeah, right" and let him hear the pipes roar as I pulled away.
Stopped at the Sunoco on the way home to fill up (the first since the Kentucky trip) and a guy pulled up at the next pump and commented "Wow what a clean ride ... very nice."
This car is 5 years old and still turning heads like it was new.

Yeah My Marauder is the same. Stops people dead, when they see it.
My Mustang did something similar in England, but then they don't have many Mustangs there.

same here, people just walk up and want to talk about the car. even folks with nice street rods and such.
for a nitch car that supposedly wasnt very popular, it sure is noticed now.

I'm the first to admit that my car doesn't get washed and shined up as meticulously as a lot of your cars do and I drive it daily ( unless I'm in Mr. Man's Titan p/u). Still, I have guys at the gas station coming over to ask about my car and just yesterday the maintenance guy at work stopped to ask a lot of questions about it. He knew it was a limited production car that " was really fast," but was amazed to learn MM's came in colors other than black. He asked if my Silver Birch was a custom paint job! Just think of the attention, once the car gets a bath!

Yup. On the way back from Kentucky in a McDonalds lot. Me, Dom and Mike, a van sitting next to me with a family in it....youngen, about 16 oogling the car, daddy gets out, takes a brief look, gets back in, rolls down the window and starts chatting it up. He used to work at a Merc dealer, knew about the MM, was correcting his kid on the idiosyncrocies. They chatted with me for a few minutes while Dom and Mike discussed something, probabally the true atomic weight of cobalt or something. (p.s., it's 58.93320)
Heh, it must be the weather now that people are out and walking again, but when I took my baby in to the dealer for a trans flush, every head was turned when I pulled up and killed the engine after a quick victory rev, and even the salesmen were drooling when she was just off the lift, asking me if the gauges and floor shifter were mods, sizing me up to see if I knew what I had, or if I'd trade.
Also the day before, guy randomly knock on my window when I'm in my driveway and asks me if I customized my car with the rims, bumper, I grinned shook my head and said "Nah, she's all stock, 'cept mayyybe for under the hood." *couldn't help the Christine reference since I've finally had the full original movie soundtrack playing lately.* He nods and says, "Well it a beauty" or something to that degree.

The thing is these cars demand a second look, at first glance its a Crown Vic but wait a minute, what the hell is that? Foglights, great wheels, rake, exhaust? They are so rare not many people have seen them even today. I went to the North Texas Ferrari meeting with my brother in law at Texas Motor Speedway (his Dad owns one) and quite a few Ferrari owners were checking out my car. After 4 years and still gets looks, thats money well spent.
After I wrote the above note I went cruising around and at one intersection some guy pulls up next to me and the back window comes down and the guy back there says "How many horsepower?" Still getting comments after 4 years. I bet brand new vettes dont get the same amount of looks.

It's the whole package that turns heads - and a few of the simpler body mods probably don't hurt either; my Girlfriend gets looks and comments continuously. Last weekend I left it in the receiving dock of an office building in NYC and apparently the building guys were all over - and UNDER it. They noticed all the upgraded underbody components and have been asking me questions all week. You know the drill, gas station and parking lot comments, my relatives asked why feds were at their house, getting waved on at intersections. One friend of a relative (whos son is a NYC officer) was nonchalant when he got in, but after a few minutes had to ask "where did you get this thing - what the hell does it got in it?"
Man, I love my Girlfriend. :D

The cars do command respect,My sister-in-law just got married friday to a car guy. He and his buds are into BMWs & Porsches'. I always tease them that BMWs only come in Silver, and Porches look like hoped up VWs,They all
gave the MM some Props when they saw & Heard it! And these guys are into german imports and Generally think anyone with american Muscle must be a redneck.

I stopped at a dealership taking a friend to look at a 2007 Towncar L. As we were leaving one of the sales guy ran over and asked what I wanted for it.
Obviously I didn't want anything for it.

What's wierd is that I am now running into a higher percentage of people that actually know what a Marauder is.

...and a guy pulled up at the next pump...
I find that those who are caught staring at Black Beauty and don't start up a conversation about her spend the remaining minutes while their car fuels staring at their own paint job and wheels like they should clean them or re-do them.

E-Dubb and I stopped at the local Ford dealership a couple weeks ago to look at a Saleen F-150 Sport Truck.
We weren't out there 2 minutes and a young salesman came running out. Eric starts asking questions about the truck, but the guy interupts him to ask if he's trading in the MM. I spoke up and told him "NO," to which he responds to me, "would you consider selling it outright, I've always wanted a Marauder, and really like the blue ones, I think they're pretty rare."
I just smiled, told him "No, I don't want to sell it, and yes, they only made 327 of them." Took his card, and got back in the car.
E-Dubb never did get a price on the truck.;)

My Blue is always for sale, it's just that most folks can't afford the price.
Same way for my house. Every material thing has it's price, the price on the Marauders and the house are all pretty steep if you wish to pry them outta my hands. I am kinda liking using them right now.:burnout:

I haven't gotten any comments for awhile. However, I have gotten comments sporadically since I've had the car. A few at the Costco gas station, the employee at Blockbuster who decided to get a 5.0 Mustang instead of a Marauder, etc. What surprises me most is those that actually have heard of the car and know something about it. Most that haven't heard of the car ask if it is fast, is it basically a cop car, or if it will beat a Charger.
One time on 205 East, a Grand Marquis passed me and was driving somewhat aggressively. He had a bra on the front of the car. Might have had some chrome tips and rims, I can't remember. I do remember that the person took pride in their Grand Marquis from the looks of it. A few instances, I throttled my Marauder a bit to catch up closer to it. I knew he was watching me so I showed him that it could really take off. But I staid behind him and drove responsibly for the most part in order to look not to obvious a show off. He slowed down as I pulled into the exit. He drove buy and gave me a wave and a honk, obviously wishing he had a Marauder instead of his Grand Marquis.

You never know, you might wind up with two; a family friend had a condo in Florida and had it "for sale" for three or four years (ridiculous price). Unbelievably someone bought it at twice the value, and the original owner went and spent half of what he made on another unit ....talk about pocketing some play money.

I stopped off at Subway yesterday for lunch and parked in the back lot. Few guys got out of a work truck as I was about 50ft from the MM and walking forward while looking back talking about the Mercury. One guy actually seemed to know his stuff cause I heard him say "Yeah it's got the same motor as the Mach 1 Mustang". Started the car up before they got to the door and they halted in their footsteps before going inside and just rubbernecked as I rolled out of the parking lol.
I get comments all the time from my clients. "Man your car is looking good, did you just wash it?" "Yeah a few weeks ago lol"
Got to love a car that you don't have to do anything to and still turn heads and be talked about without doing one thing to it.
