I talked to several shops yesterday they say you have to run in a seperate 6/8 guage power wire for it to work I am calling Viper in the morning

6-8 guage power is pretty big. are you wanting just one window or all 4. 10 guage would be enought for all 4. hell just check what the factory uses. The biggest wire in a modern car is only 6 and that one is the starter wire. I think they are blowing smoke.

I used the Factory Ford alarm. With the PATS system, you really only need a perimeter alarm. And you keep the same Fobs', no reprograming. Intalls the same as any other alarm. Less wires to cut, and it won't "void" the warrantty. I installed it myself in a day, ad did another MM also. Price was actually cheaper than an aftermarket.

Vegasmarauder how much did you spent on the Factory Ford Alarm and what is "PATS"? Sorry not very "Techy" Thx!

PATS = Passive Anti-Theft System. It has to do with a diode in the key

Sorry, Dennis, my resource came up dry too. The Viper 550 ESP allows for "additional features," but our 2003 power window scheme does not fit their program.

The Viper 550ESP allows actuating additional "owner selected" features after the ignition key is shut off, but our power windows on our 2003 MMs are not included in their program.

Must have something to do with the factory power-down programming, eh?

On my '94 Town Car, my '97 Mountaineer, my '98 Mountaineer and my '00 Mountaineer, I could do a few things after my ignition key was shut off, like open/close windows and change CDs...Not anymore, it all gets locked down on the turn of a key.

Maybe someone thought this was cool "retro stuff," because that's the way it was way back then, in the real muscle car days?

Nonetheless, this feature ain't working for me, unless I throw myself back to a '70s power scheme, with a key in the ignition lock, for anything before or after the engine is running.

Sorry...

I can't tell you the actual price I paid at the parts counter (the parts guy is a good friend), but it was less than $200.00. I think retail is less than $300.00 or so. Some Ford dealer parts departments don't charge list all the time. I think I posted part numbers and list prices in the tech post I did last March (and photos of putting the alarm LED into the PATS LED indicator on the top of the dash. I decided on the Ford alarm as I can still use my door mounted keyless entry pad, and it was less cutting of wires. Something else I found out from my nephew who's young and knows a few alarm installers. Some shops because they can't find the right starter kill wires (and are lazy) just don't even hook them up. I found this out on my friends new Ford truck. They alarm would go off, but it would still start. The wires are just tucked up into the harness. Check that feature out when you pick up your vehicle from the installer.

Dennis, Checkout the Viper Responder 790VX. I think it will do everything you want it to do. I don't know if you remember, but I showed it to you when you did the mods on my car in June.

Just let me know if you want anymore info.
