This is not for a Marauder but a chevy cobalt.

I have a friend who damaged his oil pan after hitting a pothole, the engine ended up losing all its oil and seized up. They now need a new engine and the insurance company won’t pay for it. Question is how would he of known he was losing oil from the damaged oil pan? What lights if any would of come on in the car (the car had no oil light) to alert him that he was leaking oil? If a light (engine light?) did come on how long would they have before the engine lockup? I have talked to my insurance company and they have told me they would pay for a NEW engine if it happen to me. His insurance company is refusing, saying he should of known he was losing oil. :help:

I had so many thoughts running thru my head as I read this...What ins does this person have? Tell them to try to talk to some one in a higher position. Was the car LEAKING oil or DRIPPING oil or did all the oil just come out right after the hit? In my other car when I am low on oil my engine makes a clicking noise...the colbalt is fairly a newer car...it should have something to say the oil low...I thought that was STANDARD for cars:depress:

There must be some sort of warning light when oil pressure is lost.

Just curious, wasn't there smoking behind car from the oil hitting the exhaust

By the time an idiot light comes on the damage has already been done.

Get pics of the pothole and find out which agency is responsible for maintaining the condition of the pavement and go after them,if need be get an attorney!
