Anyone used Accel coil packs versus say, Granatelli? For either one used, please share the p/n and your experience.

I installed them (Summit) when I installed the ProCharger...

I took off the connectors it came with (looks like OEM connectors), and 'am using Granateli connectors with them...

They work great! No problems at all...Smooth idle, and quick response...

NO spark blow out with 10lbs of boost!!!

From what I understand, Granateli coil packs are NOT recommended...Others have had issues with them...

Our stock coilpacks have powered engines in 9sec cars.

I'd leave the stock ones in there.

Check out weapon X performance. They offer 2 different types of COp's for 4V motors. Great quality and good price for the ones comparable to the Accels (http://www.weaponxperformance.com/catalogv137/index.php?main_page=product_in fo&products_id=6) link to part $250 for a complete set.

I have not used them myself but know a few people who have used the ultra high perfomance ones on Terminators and love them. I plan on getting the street version in the future after doing other mods.

I'd like to hear from someone who picked up those weaponx coils. On a stock or relatively stock car I couldn't see them being that much of an upgrade if at all over the OEM's.

That's true ^^^ No point in investing in these if you are stock and intend to stay that way...

What about their vented / cooled coil covers?

I heard from Speed Freaks Industires (http://www.speedfreaksinc.com/index.html) today:

I have had a lot of inconsistency with Granatelli coil packs. They also did not design the 4V coil pack correctly: p/n: 28-1705CP. It requires a res-design to swap the two wires (reverse polarity) in the coil. This is actually a design flaw.

Hello...That's ^^^what I told you, in my first post......

BTW: Although those vented covers look cool; But, it will allow water in, onto your coils (short them out), as well as pool around plugs...NOT good...

The weapon x kit is $250 the Accel kit comes to $240 at 30 dollars apiece. You are only spending $10 more for them. It's about the same price and have heard good things about them from some Cobra guys I know. I don't even have a CAI on this car yet so it's down the list of bolt ons for me.
Ya the covers do look nice but they can't be good for street use. Might be nice option for at the strip to help you cool down. :dunno: I would try it here in Florida.

regardless of which you pick, be sure to use lots of boot grease. #1 issue I get from customers with engines using COPS is misfire from moisture in plug well or torn/worn boot from lack of lube

I will inform Speed Freaks Industries to ensure they follow your advice.

The stock ignition is plenty sufficient for all but the most heavily modified forced induction motors running lots of boost.

RF,

How long would you expect the stockers to last?? I have a very light "Off Idle" stumble in neutral that I can hear in the exhaust more than feel......My tuner said it is very common with custom exhausts....wonder why??

BTW.....Almost 170K on the clock!!:bows:

I have used the Accel coils on my 5.4 2V engine. There are only 2 part numbers (2V or 4V), unless they now have 3V coils, too. They are a quality replacement for OEM Motorcraft coils, which can (and do) go bad.
