Hi guys, I am going to be moving from VA to MD in a few months. My offer on a house in charles county (La Plata) was accepted and my closing date is June 6.

My MM measures around 28% on the front and rear windows last time the cops out here in NoVa checked. I don't think this is within OK limits when the po po in MD check the windows...

I see 37 and 38% films, which I think would give a true 35% or thereabouts w/ the factory slightly tinted glass taken into account.

Can anyone recommend a tint shop that wouldn't be too too far from where I will end up, that does quality work? I don't mind paying for good quality film installed properly. I don't want a $129 special w/ no name film and bubbles in it

Thanks

I know when I'm ready to redo my windows I'm going to get the guy that did your MM to do mine.

I've had 'THE TINT MAN" in Glen Burnie do two of my cars;

2005 Subaru Legacy GT wagon...$189.00
1996 Mercury Grand Marquis......$169.00
(IIRC)

Both cars are flawless!...I wish I knew about this guy when I tinted my Marauder.:o

Joe, did you have your cars tinted to be 35% legal, or are they darker and you skirt the law w/ them?

Joe and Silversurfer, did they run your tint film right to the knife edge of the window glass? That's the way mine are done right now. I hate seeing a gap when you roll the window down or around the edges, which I've seen on peoples' cars before in traffic

If your tint is measuring 28% then you'll have to get it removed before MD inspection. I have seen SS03's tint and it's really good.

I've heard and seen good and bad things about "The Tint Man". He did one of my ex's cars twice and it was still awful. I ended up taking it back off and going someplace else that did it for cheaper and did a better job.

I had them put 35% tint on the OEM tinted windows which ends up being a little darker than legal in Maryland.
I've never been pulled over with this '35% + OEM tint'...and I've had it on 5 vehicles.
In fact I had this 35% + OEM tint on my '96 S10 Blazer for so long that when I went to sell it and had it inspected, it passed the Maryland State Trooper's tint check machine.
It must have faded just enough to pass the test.
Obviously, you would want to do this 35% + OEM tinting AFTER you've had the car(s) inspected for Maryland registration and tags.

I had my 85 Mustang tinted to 20% and got pulled over ALL the time for the tint.....and maybe for a few speed infractions also...:D

They run the tint very close to the window's knife edge, but leave a small 1/16" margin.
It is not noticeable at all on either car.

So WTF, I was on my way home last night and it took 2 Howard Co. Cops to give me a WARNING about my tint.

One followed me for about half a mile with just his parking lights right on my rear. The other was at his 8. The one that was at 8 o'clock creep passed me as I signaled over onto my exit ramp and at the last minute the one with his parking lights on cut over and lit me up.

Got to love bored rookie cops.

Not shure where my legacy or rauder was done but my neon and mazda 6 was done near fed ex by the off base military hosing area. They did $100 after tax but only 5 yr warr. Once leg gt has out of town tags again will jump on 20%.

Does anyone who has LEGAL tint in maryland on any car (35% NET) have a side view picture of their car during the day? I am debating whether to strip my tint, pass inspection, then put 35% film back on (and be slightly illegal), or just get a shop to use 39% film and actually be legal. I bet the visual difference to the passer by, of 35% film vs 39% film, is not noticeable.

If I wanted 5% tint for some reason, than going w/ the legal tint would be a huge down-grade, but since I am used to the 28% tint I already have, I figure I might as well make it legal since it's already so close. I will give the cops enough reason to pull me over (my driving), I don't want to give them any more violations to write me up for
