Well gang, as you know, I have a 2000 GM, but the parking brakes are very similar.
As you can see by this picture, there was a lot of rust.

As you can also see, there is no brake material on the left shoe. It was shoved under the material on the right shoe. I took this picture before I noticed this occurrance. This was causing a lot of squeaking and polished the drum & pad.
Occasionally I noticed "click, click..." like that of a card on a bicycle wheel.
Apparently it was from this part touching the wheel studs on the backside of the axle flange. You can see new as well as old damage near the stop pin on this part.

The problem occurred in the first place because this lever assembly that engages the parking brake shoes was rusted together in the engaged position that you see pictured. When I was using my parking brake, only the right side was operating correctly. I got into the habit of using the parking brake long ago in effort to prevent this very same damage. Didn't work out so well in this case.
I need to find these replacement parts since they are rusted together. I would like to do both sides so that I'm confident of being in good condition.
Unfortuantely, the NAPA parking brake kit does not contain this part. They do however have the lower part that has the stop pin, but it is worthless without the upper lever pc. The dealer claims that I would need to order the complete parking brake assembly which includes the backing plate shield in order to get these parts. Can anyone point me to a source, including part numbers, of just these two parts for both side of the car?
