The other morning I got off from work around 6:30 am. I was on the BQE (a local expressway) and I see this young guy in a Subie WRX with the big hood scoop and big wing and it's modified with a fart sounding exhaust. He's weaving in and out of traffic, jumping from lane to lane. We get on the Long Island Expressway, and he's still at it. One minute he's behind me, then he's in front of me, then alongside me jumping all over the place. I was in the left lane, and stayed there. He is right behind me looking to get around me, when I notice a car in the middle lane starting to exit. I am coming up on the SUV in front of me, while passing an 18 wheeler that is in the middle lane alongside me. I see an opportunity to take advantage of the open middle lane. Calmly, and without doing anything stupid, I signaled, changed into the middle lane, and accelerated quickly. I made the move in a way so that the Subie got trapped behind the SUV. I easily put a half mile between me and the Subie. It took him about 20 minutes and many exits to catch up to me. I was hoping he would learn that you'll get further, faster by learning to read the other traffic. And not by weaving in and out jumping form lane to lane. He did all that work, and gained nothing for it. He probably added an extra mile to his travel with all his extra driving. Not to mention the wear and tear on his tires and brakes, and abusing his engine.

I call that "rush hour racing". More like a chess game than a drag race. :D

And when you get more advanced you can predict where and when each driver is going to turn off, which ones are going/planning to cut you off, and when people are going to change lanes.
I love making someone change lanes in front of the "weaver." Or blocking a weaver from his obvious turnoff by pacing someone in the next lane so he can't get by but also can't get back in behind you. Makes my whole day. OK, not really, but if yer gonna be impatient, you also gotta plan ahead. :)

I prefer just to smile at them, maybe even a slight head shake with a smile like they have no chance, it just kills em.

Yeah, when I know someone is going to do a high speed idiot pass on the right I speed up then back off so they get boxed in. Fun times.

Its like gunning past a slowpoke just to see him at the next set of lights creeping slowly up on your rear. Makes me think....whats the point.

I'm a pretty good traffic reader (avoider) too. I like doing that to idiots playing chess.

I get that on the highways, I drive locked in on cruise to the limit and have to pass all the slow people, who after being passed speed up, and pass me back only to slow down and i have to pass them again, still locked into cruise at the limit. The greyhound like buses are the worst, they have to slow down for the hills, and I pass them then they get back up to speed and pass me again only to slow down on the next hill.
