I've been going on with this Alt. problem for a month now, and the rebuilder tells me he has a tech message that says with the conditions that exist in my car, the PCM/ECM needs to be reflashed. The dealer says that he has to internet connect to Detroit, get my code, and download it to my PCM/ECM with his laptop. This will then solve the problem. I'm looking for someone with a lot of knowledge in this area to tell me the truth, like Zack maybe? The PCM/ECM in my car is one of those that can be rebooted, I had the dealer check that out, when they diagnosed the problem.

Dealer updates/reflashes are fairly common!!:cool4:
It might actually resolve your problem and if not....they will have to fix it somehow!!

If you look back on my previous threads, you will see that my alt. died, I replaced it, and the battery, alt charges, but battery light is still on, also the engine RPM has to go over 2500-3000 RPM before the alt will self excite, and then start charging, each time you start the car. It is very long, and involved, but the reason I'm asking this is that at $100 an hour it could get expensive, and the dealer will not take anything for granted, they have to start at step 1 so the first $100 is already gone, and I've already been past this point.

Can't speak to these specifically, but I've seen that symptom a LOT, in all kinds of cars. In fact I have one right now that's the same way. As time goes on, the rpm that it cuts in at keeps climbing.(datsun 280zx, with fresh rebuilt CHEAP alternator from former owner) Saw it on a 77 Olds, in 77, so it's hardly new. Methinks your alternator is junk.
