So, I'm out shopping for my wedding ring, and on my way to get gas when I see an officer next to me at a light. I'm thinking, oh great, I'm gonna have to accelerate when he does. I gave it nice easy throttle, still very loud. He pulls up behind me and follows for a mile or so. I go to turn left at a light and he is right behind me. Sitting there waiting for the light, he moves over to the other turn lane on my left. I make the turn and then the first right turn into the gas station. He follows me right in and lights me up as I get to the pump. I'm thinkin "aw, mann stupid mufflers (or lack thereof)" He comes up to the car and says "Ryan" I said "yes sir" "Do you know that your drivers license is expired?" "No, I haven't even looked at it in a while" Pulled it out and sure enough, expired less than a month ago on my birthday:depress: OOps I thought to myself. So he takes DL, Reg, Insurance back to his car. Comes back with a citation for $73.00! I am so used to everything coming in the mail. Registration, Insurance, etc.. I toootally forgot about the DL. Then he asked me to get out and sign the paper thingie. He then asked if he could search my car:eek: He said there had been reports of officer impersonating going on in the area with a marauder. I said" Yes sir" I have nothing to hide. He was looking for flashing lights installed somewhere. So, he opens my trunk and sees a big brown box with 2, yes TWO sets of mufflers! WOW, I couldn't make up a story like this. So we started chatting about the marauder clubs and the marauder forums and I told him there isn't much activity here in town with forum members. I told him about people like piglet50 that abuse their lights and brag about it. But nothing in town that I knew of. OK, here's the stupid part. He basically says goodbye and I begin filling up with gas. Another officer has joined him and they are both looking at the car, saying how beautiful it is. I'm standin there, waiting for the gas to pump and I said "while you're here, let me ask you about the laws regarding mufflers. " He says that anything other than stock is illegal, which I kinda had heard before. So me, assuming that he realizes I am in violation, try to explain myself and say that I am inbetween mufflers right now. Hence the two sets of mufflers in the trunk. I said, I don't actually have any mufflers on right now, I'm trying to decide which ones I like best. I realized as I pulled off that I was ASKING for a ticket for muffler violation:lol: He did say, though, that they don't usually bug people about it unless they are causing trouble. But now, I have to wonder how many times hes gonna see me, and hear me and think "he still didn't get his mufflers re-installed" "He knows he is in violation" In hindsight, yeah I shoulda kept my mouth shut, but at the time I thought I was explaining myself so I WOULDN'T get in trouble. Well, I'm for sure going to the DMV tomorrow. I may have to do something about my mufflers. uuuggh Sorry for the long story. The moral of the story "We both heard each other, loud and clear"

Sometimes it is better to remain silent, and seem a fool, then to speak-up, and remove all doubt.

He didnt need to search the car, i have noting to hide in my cars either as i dont even allow paper towels in the car but if its not in sight he should have no reason to search the car.

Well, I agree with that in general. He didn't really know what he was looking for, where the lights were supposed to be. He was very nice about the whole thing and I don't fault him at all. He did his job.

When asked to search the car you should say no, if you're doing nothing wrong there's no reason for it, plus, it's your right!

Good Story I enjoyed that one.. Not to long just right … lol

In New York there is a lot of police impersonators.

I used to have a 99 crown vic police interceptor it had the spotlight still on it and everything. Cops would always look for a reason to pull me over and see if I was a police impersonator

Fortunately My grandfather was a big shot in the police department in my county and when i would get pulled over About my car they wouldn’t hassle me to much. Now I have the marauder and cops don’t look to pull me over anymore.

I start the police academy in January and on my psychological evaluation they asked if I ever impersonated a cop because of my car.
The psychologist laughed at how often I would get pulled over because of my car..

I've been pulled over for three possible tickets, volunteered to take them, as I guess I did something wrong, and was let go.

Going to fast around a corner, Illegal turn, something else, just little stuff. But I have never ever had a ticket, except for the one for something I didn't even do.

Never speak to a cop unless spoken to. Only speak to answer a question, Always say yes sir or maam, as appropriate. If they say you just did something, and if you just did it, say so.

Never admit to any major crime. Or anything they do not know about. If arrested assert your right to a lawyer immediately.

If asked to come in for questioning, immediately ask for a lawyer. Say nothing else until said lawyer arrives. If they say you are not under arrest, leave.

"used to DL renewal coming in mail". Me too, state stopped sending them a while back, gotta go to the DMV for an eye test and renewed picture every four.

In Louisiana non stock exhaust system is verboten. Of course I don't say anything to the many LEO's with their flowmaster or magnaflows bellowing in the evening breeze.

I think I have a solution for ya.

That loud exhaust WILL draw attention. Get used to it. It's not just the exhaust. Custom and nice cars draw attention. Sometimes admiriation, sometimes disdain. Welcome to the world of having a badass car. It's always been like that for me. I just can't leave my cars alone and all of them have become cop magnets. Big freakin bullseye painted onthe side that says 'aim blue lights here'.

Get used to having DL, ins proof and reg READY before they get to the car. Play dumb, but not stupid. When asked why pulled over, say you don't know and nothing more. Know the laws, most LEO prey on ignorance. It's how they get the 'confession' for the ticket. Most are professional, though.

I've been pulled countless times. I've been frisked and threatened. I've even had a gun to my head. (that's quite a story). I've had them want to search. I always say no. They have no probable cause. He had no cause to search you either. Just cuz someone else is sporting lights, doesn't mean they have the right ot search you. He could see light outlines through the windows if he wanted and could see hideaway bulbs in your signal if he just looked. Besides, what frakin light have you ever seen that shines out of a closed trunk?! No probable cause. Then the excuse may have been your tint too dark for him to see lights. Then give me a tint ticket. They know the limits and prey on the notion that you don't. Nice and professional, sure. Violate your rights he did.

You don't have to be a prick to assert your rights. Before you consent to search, you have the right for a supervisor to be present. Who cares if you have nothing to hide? And as far as him making your life hell in Collier, I had a city in melbourne pull me over and over. I beat him in court over and over. After our thrid visit to the same judge, the judge asked him if he had a reason to be harassing me. Moral - they know their limits. You should, too.

This is by no means a knock against LEO's. I support the hell out of good LEO's. I know the pressing of limits is how the job gets done. I'm explaining to Ryan, he does not have to bend.

Well, it was a non-moving violation, meaning no points for me. It was a citation for $73.50 that does need to be paid. I was at the DMV this morning and got my new license already;)

i have strobes, fron and back, and i have a controller mounted to my center console.

both time when i was pulled over i have had my leg covering the controller simply because i do not want to catch flack for it. the car used to be a funeral preccession car, so it has strobes and a police interceptor badge on it. it also had 3%tint all the way around, which i have not removed.

the local police were shown the strobes, by me, when i bought the car. they told me they weren't illeagal just not to use them, WHICH I DONT.

can an officer search the car or write me up for something just because he spotted my controller?

whenever your talking to someone with a badge, keep the answers short, and on point. If your just BSing with them make sure your not self-incriminating while you do it.

Absolutely not. You can only get nabbed for impersonating if you are, infact, currently impersonating! The switches could be for anything. Secondly, just cuz you have the lights 'on' doesn't mean you are impersonating either. There's a hundred reasons to use them (but none valid while in motion). You have to be doing actions that impersonate, like pulling someone over, or using them to threaten as you pass, etc. Switches are NOT probable cause.
