Hi all;

Really what I want to say is:
in the quarter mile, how much time can be shaved (tenths), by making the car lighter, say by dumping the trunk contents before going to the track?

Last time I went to the track, I had a trunk load of stuff....F/S spare, organizer w/ full tool kit, jumper cables, airpump...etc

if I cut 60Lbs of junk how many tenths can I shave off?

Thanks ahead of time to the experts

at Gainesville once I did go down the track with passengers

The car was markedly slower with larger passengers

wish I had those ancient time slips:shake:

Yep, Gregg. i've always herad the same. 100lbs/10th.

Eddie and I having long been side by side with mods and ran very close times. However, he generally pulled 2-4 tenths and I firmly beleive it was due to the weight of my stereo while he was running sans spare, etc. The one time I did get him, my car was stripped, backseat and all before, the last stereo rebuild.

I also believe my rank on the timeslip page reflects a couple hundred pounds of stereo gear when compared to others of similar moddage.

Anecdotal, evidence it is, but you get the picture....

I can confirm. Passes with my 160 Lb Son were 2/10 slower. Oh wait, that was in the 1/8 mi....

Use the 100 Lb ~ 1/10 slower for 1/4, it's a fair measure.

IIRC, the number is more like a tenth for 60-75 lbs. You'd be surprised how much unnecessary junk you can leave in the pits. Spare tire, jack, assorted tools is probably worth at least a tenth.

I also heard that one tenth will be a car length difference too.

Yep, at 100mph a tenth of a second is roughly a car length difference.
