View Full Version : 14.78 Quarter Mile @ Atco Raceway
This is the best time I've run to date. I have the DRP Chip, 4.10, 180 Stat & Motorcraft plugs.
Is it worth switching to Denso's.
What is the fastest time anyone has run with this set up?

M2306, what was the track temperature when you ran?
My slip had no weather info but the outside temp was somewhere in the mid 70's. It wasn't as humid as it has been in the northeast but you could still feel the moisture in the air.

About your question on the Densos, When Dennis did my programming , plugs and stat, he was out of Densos so he put in a new set of Motorcraft plugs. The Densos were shipped to me I put them in about a week later. I noticed a difference in the throtle response when you just are barely touching the pedal there was like a pause or dead spot in response, with the Denso's that very slight dead zone disappeared I cannot say this will translate to lower E/T's but you "can" notice a difference.

M2306,
What was your reaction time? That can be a huge difference in time.
I ran 12 runs in July on a 85 degree humid evening with all the same upgrades you have. Best time was 14.870 @94.71 mph rt .559.
My Denso plugs didn't arrive in time.
I'll go back when we get cooler weather here and see if they help.
For $17 it makes a fun night to race.

Reaction time has no bearing on elapsed time. The clocks don't start till you leave the line.

As a matter of fact a slower reaction time will give you a quicker ET.
How?
When you roll up to the lights the first beem you turn on is the "pre stage" light.
Next 6" away,is the "staged" light.
If you stop and "just" turn on the "staged" you will be as far away from the starting line as posible.
The starting line is 12" from the "Staged" light.
So when the lights go green and you take off you now have a "run"at the 1/4 mile.
Now if you roll into and past the "staged"light and turn off the "prestaged "light you will be "deep staged" that just cut your "run" at the 1/4 by about 6".
The reaction time is the time it takes for the car to trip the start beems AFTER the green light come on.(RT used to be the time it took to break the start beem AFTER the LAST YELLOW came on,so a perfect light was .500 on a sportsman tree,to a .400 on a pro tree.) now "perfect" is .000 on both.****
So if your closer to the starting beem you "should" cut a better light(better reaction time). But that shortened your head start or run at the 1/4 so your et will drop.
How much do you loose?
Well my Marauder cut it's best 1/4 run at 15.36 with a .144 light,I was shallow stagged.When I bumped in Deep I went 15.44 with a .028 light.
*** if your track has the old type timing system .500 and .400 is perfect RT.
I was wondering about reaction time, too. I have been thinking about taking my car to the track, but with absolutely no experience at this, I was afraid that a slow reaction time would add a lot of time to my ET, and not give me a true picture of what the car can do. Good info here.

I went 14.60 at E-town but the air was better. I now have pulleys and Deso's and will go back soon....14.40s or BUST!

Back about 15 years ago(has it been that long? :( )
I bracket raced 3 times a week, daytime reaction times ran in the .515 to .530 range. When the sun went down I was in the .500 t0 .510 range. thats what practice does for you.:)
When the sun goes down the lights appear brighter so you can see them come on earlier.

Reaction time is defined as the amount of time it takes from the green light being lit til the vehicle moves. It has no bearing on e.t.
Shallow and deep staging have varying affects on e.t., but no affect on reaction times.

How can I say this.......
the reaction timer stops when the "staged" light beem is broken, thats the same beem that gives you the red light. So being closer to braking that beem will shorten that time,so moving between the "pre" and "staged" lights has a marked effect on what your time slip records as reaction time.
See you in Dallas.
