Put pen and paper to the difference in fuel costs in many cases it is less expensive to keep what you have.

Example the Tahoe Hybred needs to go 400,000 miles to break even based on 0 money costs over the standard Tahoe.

The Pyrus breaks even after year 2.

Yup, a local GM dealer came to my work to try and impress all the big shots on Earth Day with their new Tahoe Hybrid. They said it would seriously have to go that kind of mileage to break even. By then, the body would be all rusted anyway.

Tough time to sell a V8 car. When I was looking at possibly trading my 04 DTR in March towards a Saab they low balled me and wouldn't budge. $11.5k, kiss my petute... They further insulted me by saying they would have to wholesale it to get rid of it. Can't print my response to the sales drone here. :mad2:

Don't take it personally, car salespersons & their managers always say that. Then you will see your car on the prime spot of the lot with a huge markup.

Tell you what, if I used mine everyday, I'd install a set of 3:27 gears and get it tuned to use 91 with them before I'd trade or sell.
When I had 3:55's and no Trilogy, I could get 22-23 mpg around here and got just shy of 28 hwy.
Now, That's using the cruise and keeping the speeds to just above average, but it worked.
Even now, I can get 23 hwy if i'm a real good boy.

Dealers are the worst - when you trade in they always say "the blue books don't buy cars" ........but apparently they work when dealers want to sell one, plus a little extra.

They are all full of S*^T!!!!

hmm rethink after checking with the garage guys.

I guess maybe just get a tune that keeps you out of the boost.

Shift at 2000-3000 rpm.

or if you really wanted to, you could cvt it.

On the other hand, sell your tahoe, keep the Marauder and get a Smart car.

Drive the smart car when it is just you, and keep the Marauder for hauling poeple and stuff around. You might even consider a roof rack.

Look at how many MM's are for sale on this board -- there are a ton available. This was not the case a year ago or more. This is not the market to be selling an MM, for sure.

I noticed that. What is happening here?

I noticed that. What is happening here?

There are three types of owners:

Drivers - a car is a car, and is used to get from point to point
Enthusiasts - thoroughly enjoy what they have (may even wrench on it), but can become enthusiastic about other vehicles, and lose their interest in the first one
Hardcore enthusiasts - the ones that will likely own their vehicle forever and see it as part of the familyMany think they are part of group 3, but eventually fall into group 2. I would surmise that most on here would fall into group 2. It seems there are some worried about gas prices. Others, the car has just lost some of it's luster, over the years. As one owner sells, another one buys, and hopefully joins the community. Hopefully, most MM's are passed along, rather than passed away.

I agree with one addition - many in catagory 3 will revert back to catagory 2 because their financial situation dictates thir lifestyle rather than the other way around.

If I had my way I would have kept every car I ever owned --- But my money tree died years ago.

$4 gas brutha man. In the 70s and 80s, you could get the super rare hemi cudas and all that jazz for pennies, after fall out from the oil crisis. We are basically going to have a modern version of that.

I bought a really cheap, old ass Saturn SL2 the other day for a commuter car. Yeah you read that right. Look at the other cars in my sig, and try to figure out how a Saturn fits in there. It doesn't. I hate it so much, but it gets 35 mpg and it cost $1400 purchase price, with only 77,000 miles on it. I am going to tint the windows so no one can see me driving it. It's a gold turd on wheels.

Thats hilarious! I bought a '91 Tercel last year for the same reason. I'm kicking myself for getting rid of it.

In the above group, I'm #2. I'm either looking for a Marauder or Bonneville Gxp as a daily driver. But I'm another buyer looking for a steal.

Good luck to the OP, car looks nice.

As soon as everyone sells their Marauder, the oil reserve in Alaska will be opened and gas will go down to $2.00 a gallon.
In turn, Marauders will be selling for $20k+ again.
My .02....a little far-fetched!

I'm in the 2.5 group.

I kept my Mustang until it started rusting out. that lasted 17 years. We had our 66 Mustang for a bit longer, but lost it due to some parking storage costs and problems when a different company bought the storage place we were using... anyway in the end storage over 5 years equalled the car costs and the courts gave them the 66 Stang. that was 30 years later. My Lebaron only lasted 11 years. But it was a Lebaron wagon, and I was moving to England. My Subaru was always a stepping stone car. I knew from day one it wasn't going to be around more than a couple years.

My Marauder, other than getting another shot at a Lagonda or the like, I won't be getting rid of it until it is all rusted up.

For those thinking of buying a new car like a prius or other hybrid, don't forget to factor in car payments, insurance premiums, battery replacement, fun (a smile on the road is worth a few dollars at the pump), and cargo and people hauling abilities, and safety.

Suddenly that new econobox doesn't seem so worthwhile after all.

On the otherhand an Excursion or Navigator, maybe even a Lightning might be an option soon too.

Gas goes up, prices go down, :)

I have a 93' V6 Grand Am GT S#^t box, but it only gets about 20 MPG, and I get that with my MM, so why drive it, but it will scald the Cats A$$.

Thanks Glenn! People forget about all of the "factors" while only looking at the cost at the pump. The real costs are what that article mentions. Lets take it further; crisis in Venezuala; emerging nations (China, India and Brazil they need energy too) weakening of the US dollar all contribute to the rising fuel costs. Particularly the Venezuala conflict with Colombia; the concern is how US policy will force Hugo to use fuel as a deterrent to US involvement.

Not to make this political - but the US has plenty of oil, but congress will not allow us to drill off FL or CA or in N. AL. If if was approved by Clinton ten years ago we would not have gas at nearly $4.00 a gallon. Everything is to make Bush look bad so the democratics can get the White House regardless of the affect on America.
