what does c.i.d. actually mean? well i know what it means but what does it measure, as well as cc's. the marauder engine is a 302 as opposed to the panther 281 but it is still a 4.6. where is the increase?

c.i.d. = cubic inch displacement = the swept volume of the engine's cylinders.

The Marauder V8 is still 4.6 Liters = 281 c.i.d.

302 c.i.d. = approximately 5.0 Liters (actually 5.0 Liters = 305 cubic inches)

cc = cubic centimeters

1000cc = 1 liter

1 liter = @ 61 cubic inches

As Joe stated! Basically the displacement is the amount of volume in the cylinder through the piston's movement, ie. in the cylinder bores from bottom of stroke to the top of the pistons stroke.

i forgot where i saw that it said 302cid. i guess i prolly saw 302 hp.

they all measue the cylinders volume though?

You can figure out the displacement of any engine if you know the bore x stroke and the number of cylinders...

Just use the formula for the volume of a cylinder;

r2 x pi x h where r = radius of cylinder = 1/2 diameter = 1/2 bore....pi = 3.1415926.....h = height of cylinder = stroke...then multiply by the number of cylinders.

[(1/2 bore dimension) x (1/2 bore dimension)] x 3.141592 (pi) x stroke x number of cylinders.

For our 4.6 Liter/281 c.i.d. V8s;

Bore is 3.55" and stroke is 3.54" (referred to as a 'square' engine because the bore and stroke are essentially the same)

3.55 x 1/2 = 1.775

1.775 x1.775 = 3.151

3.151 x 3.1415926 = 9.899

9.899 x 3.54 = 35.043

35.043 x 8 = 280.34 cubic inches

besides dohc what makes the marauder engine more powers?

besides dohc what makes the marauder engine more powers?

The DOHC short block is aluminum vs. cast iron on the SOHC...less weight not really more power.

The DOHC cylinder heads have 4 valves per cylinder and dual overhead cams...the DOHC heads breathe better than the SOHC heads, especially as the rpms climb...you make more power and can rev it higher than a SOHC.
