There is a Shania Twain song, can't recall it's name right now, that everytime I hear I think i'm having a transmission failure.
This goes back to my Mustang that at one time the local garage guys put summer weight grease on the transmission cable. Now this was fine all summer long but then winter came and it was hard to shift into drive (automatic). So I knew this was a problem and while we were having a very cold blast, -50 or more plus windchill. It was COLD! So I had to drive to the city, living out in a small town, and I hopped in the car, warmed it up, trying to heat the trans cable and pulled the selector into drive, it was very difficult to do. I then proceded to drive to the city to my college about 40 minutes away. Cars were in the ditch, dead. It was very very cold. Anyway I arrived at college and a thought came to me just as I was about to pull into the parking space. I would have to back out so I though I would see how the transmission was, I might have given a thought to backing in, can't remember completely why I checked. It was 20 years ago. Anyway I found I couldn't budge the selector. Now I knew I wouldn't be able to start it again, no clutch and no way to get it into neutral or park. So I looked around, and decided I didn't want to be stuck at college here. It was a friday and the place is closed over the weekend, didn't want to get kickced out at the end of the day. ...
So I drove back home. The thrid light I came up to I pulled up behind a sedan, and as the light turns green he doesn't move. He hops out, opens his hood and then walks away. I barely squeeze by him and then carry on to the next light, 2 further down the road and little datsun, not nissan, a datsun coupe, green or dark grey, I decided not to pull up close behind him and again the same thing happens. He also walks away. Now I'm worried as I have to drive back out of town to get home and my car isn't working properly. This time I drive around fine but i'm concerned.
Anyway the rest of the drive was uneventful and I made it home. I had a heavy (40 pound) really heavy bag of books and such and didn't want to leave it in the car. I though i might be able to toss it on my lawn, but didn't think I would be able to heave it far enough. I tried to get out but the car just started rolling away. It was in gear after all and I couldn't back up, so I just turned it off without taking it to the garage, besides I might have been dressed for the weather but it was still freaking cold!
Anyway we had it towed to the other garage in town and they had a look at the transmission. Found the summer weight grease, also found that I pulled the gear selector so hard that I bent the internals and it literally wouldn't go into first from the selector anymore.
However it did make a neat vibration hum ever after, only went away if you pushed, lightly, on the gear selector forwards. A little push and hold and it would stop for a little while.
Anyway this particular song by Shania Twain, has a hum that is exactly like the hum my transmission in my Mustang would make. I always catch myself pushing my Marauder selector forward then realize it is just part of the song.
I then skip that song and play a different one.
