Finally bought my dream car.
Had a quick question about aftermarket stereos. I hope it is as easy as buying an aftermarket head unit and one of these:

Someone please tell me it is! It even has an adapter for the sub/amp (it goes into RCA and then I think into the aftermarket head unit sub controls).
If this doesn't work would I just have to replace EVERYTHING?
Advice is much appreciated!

Aftermarket head units WILL NOT interface with factory sub. Do a search. I have discussed this at great length and detail in other threads.
Get your choice of Pioneer head unit from John's Stereo. Every one available has been reviewed and done and knowledge exists in print right here on how to install each.
There are a multitude of sub replacement possibilities. Review John;s forum for my 10" box with a sub/amp combo from John which fits perfectly.
My factory sub works with my pioneer Z2 thanks to john.
Problem is Jake its not the factory sub! You have the MTX upgrade.
No i havent installed the mtx yet, im still using my factory sub WITH my Z2

Nice trick.
1) How did you sum the L/R Sub out?
2) How did you feed the factory amp 5v turn on?

The only reason I am asking is because I saw this harness with the small adapter. Figured maybe someone made the sub/amp compatible with an aftermarket head unit.
Oh well.
The factory sub is making a rattle anyway, and has less than average sound. Gonna replace it...throw a powered unit in the trunk somewhere.
Thanks for the replies!
Nate hooked everything up for me. My car will be at carlisle you can see for yourself. John i will be in michigan this weekend thru next week i will be more than happy to show you everything works. I thought you saw it in kentucky?

Sorry Rich - I used my Eclipse head unit for sub control for the long time preceeding my huge install. I alleviated the turn-on/off pop with a soft-on resistor. I used Metra harness 70-5512.

That harness is 70-5521. I mistyped the number. However - make sure that the signal is crossed over lowpass (about 80HZ), or you'll just have one loud speaker instead of a woofer.
I had to buy a harness to get mine to work, i dont remember the part # but nate sure will. We BOTH have pioneer nav units and still have use of the factory sub. And john that 10 inch MTX i picked up from you will go in after my trip to michigan.
