Curious to find out what the lay of the land is on rear axle gears. These are the only ratios I've heard of with the Ford 8.8" rear. If you have one on your car that isn't in the poll, post here and tell us about it.

I don't think I'm going to change my gears. We'll see when the blower is on. I probably will change lol.

Who voted the 4.56's? Did Drewstang vote? I believe his MM was the only one (to my knowledge) that had them. BillyG's old car. Unless Zack swapped them out.

Today I have 4.30's but by the end of the week they will be 3.55's again. Gotta make sure I don't run out of rpm before hitting the stripes!

It was me. Brute has the tall gears... with a Trilogy.

I have one of each...3.55 in Phoebe (and most likely to stay that way), and 4.10 in The Blackbird.

A common misconception is that the higher the gear ratio, the taller it is. Actually, the higher the number, the shorter the gear. Go figure but it is true.
BTW, I have 4.10s sitting on a shelf in the closet. Who knows if I will ever install them.

Stockers here. Can't quite justify the 4.10's with the ammount of driving I do. I probably burn about 1400 gallons of what passes for gasoline nowadays a year. A 5 to 10 percent increase (additional 70 to 140 gallons a year) adds up to a bit of change. Although when I look at it on paper, that isn't that much.

I've got the 4.10's, but with today's gas prices, I wouldn't do it again. I did them at separate times, and I did the gears first, but Lidio's tune made a much bigger difference than the gears by themselves.
Up until yesterday morning, I'd been running 235/50's all the way around. I put the stock rears on yesterday before a 300 mile trip, and it made the car much more relaxed. Going to 255/55's all the way around next time.

Being RoyLPita, you're probably right. I plagiarized: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showpost.php?p=615704&postcount=14
I've been told not to "fear the gear", but anything above 5.00 scares the crap out of me. Makes me think of the first time I was in 4-low in my Jeep and I had to hold down the brake with both feet because it caught me off guard.
Anyone know of a Ford 8.8" with more than 5.00?

Actually, I know of a Ranger that the owner installed 4.88 gears in an 8.8. They are in between 4.56 and 5.13. I do not know any members with them, though.

Although I do not have a MM, my GM has the same driveline, so I placed my 4.10 on the poll.

I voted 4:10 even though they are not in yet, just waiting for my tune. Shouldn't be long now.
