What works best and how well do they work?
I would like to get up to 93 octane from 91 or less fuel.
How do I do this?

Good luck. Read the fine print. Most off the shelf octane boosters are junk. They say "Raises octane by 4 points!" But that's points in the overall calculation. Do the math and it's more like 4 tenths of a point if you're lucky. They usually disclose this in super small print on the back of the bottle.
So on the best day thats 91 to 91.4.

Don't buy 91, buy 93 instead.
The 5 cents difference is less than the cost of the octane boost...

I was really thinking about a water alcohol kit.

I found this post but I still do not quite understand this?

^^^what they said^^^ about OTC octane boosters being worthless...the "points" they are so proud of are actually TENTHS of an octane number, so yeah...91 becomes 91.4 to 91.7 at the MOST...
I know this from actual experience in my '68 Buick which requires old-school premium fuel of 99 octane...I couldn't figure out why none of the octane boosters I tried seems to do a damn thing, not even 2 bottles worth, until I learned the reason why...they're a total waste of money.

Has anyone here heard of Turbo Blue, or Cam 2?..... Not cheap, but effective!!!

Just had a segment on TV this week about octane boosters. The energy folks have been tracking this stuff for years and have found that none of them meet their claims. In fact, the prime ingredient in these octane booster is the same as in moth balls. Probably naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene.
What I want to know is who volunteered to castrate the little suckers?

We can't get 93 here. Best I've seen in Alberta is 92 octane.
Diabolical - I've run my MM on 92 Octane from Husky since day one. Nary a problem.

I get free gas at Esso so I'm stuck with 91.
I just thought if I could use a Meth Water injector it might be able to boost it to 93 or more and I could get/use a better tune...

As stated before most octane boosters are Naphtha or Kerosene and only add .1 to .4 octane points but they do help clean up combustion chambers, thus helping to prevent detonation!!:cool4:
I sell/use an octane booster that was developed mainly for 3rd world countries who generally have 82-84 octane gas......normal dosage will raise this stuff to 87+ plus it is not very expensive!!
I run Shell 93 octane exclusively and ALWAYS add the booster "just in case" I get a bad tank full.....over 3 years using it and NEVER had any detonation....period!!:bows:
The product I use will raise effective octane numbers as follows:
87 to 89 (20 points)
89 to 90.5 (15 points)
91 to 92 (10 points)
93 to 93.5 (5 points)
Though octane tests prove the above octane numbers, the product prevents detonation as if the numbers were higher??
Claims are that fuel economy will improve as well and I have seen some people getting 10-15% improvements in older, beat up cars but MOST people don't even know how to calculate fuel economy!!:shake:
This product along with upper cylinder lube have kept my engine young over it's 171K mile life with ZERO oil consumption......she runs better than the day I got her!!!:bows:
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!:D

What is the concern overall though?
The MM is made for Premium fuel which varies between 91 and 93 octane depending on location. I'm suspecting the stock tune will work fine for 91 octane. It has to, becuase 93 isn't available everywhere, and the car makers know this.
All aftermarket tuners will also provide you with a 91 or 93 octane tune depending on your needs based on location and octane availability.
So you can run 91 octane. Yes a tune for 93 will tap into more power, but stock should be fine on 91 and if tuned contact the tuner and let them know you want to run 91 octane.

And even if you have a 93 octane tune, if your tuner (the person who wrote the program, not the unit) leaves the parameters open, you can just pull a couple degrees to get from 93 to 91.
Of course, some tuners lock down their tunes, but some generous folks who like to share will let ya mess wid it. :)

Don't these cars have knock sensors?
