So my motor blew... what do you guys think...
In March 2007 the crankshaft, bearing, and oil pump were replaced due to knocking in the cold weather. 34k miles on it.
Car was sold to me, showing a clean carfax, in April 2007.
Friday night i brought it to the local LM dealer and had them look at the car because it was making a slight tapping noise.
Sunday night it went:bigcry:
Started it and it was knocking hard, but then went away after i got off the hill. I had to get home and i babied it till i got home, about 5-7 miles. coasting the whole way.
Had a new dealer look at it and they sai8d that the crank was instaled wrong and it torqued the block, sheering rings and bending rods.:(
she had only 51k on her

No Warranty...
I called FoMoCo and they said it might be possible to do what they call a PO-5 which means they would pay for the motor and only charge me $750( special rate of $50 for labor. its good to know the owner ) to install.

Then that dealer needs to eat their words.
Keep us posted on any progress, please.

they are not liable, i have looked into it.
they did not check the oil even, just listened and diagnosed it. and then when i brought it back blown up, they said possibly a bent rod. they said drive it but go easy:shake:
car had 0 oil in the motor when it blew up... 0
my girlfriend's uncle owns a LM dealer about 70 miles from us so i towed it to him.
Option 1: $9000 installed long block from FoMoCo
Option 2: $6000 installed short black fomr FoMoCo
Option 3: $4000 04 Cobra motor N/A 42k miles installed
Option 4: FoMoCo helps me out.

Option 3 has only 8.5 compression and is a steel block.
Try to see if option 4 works for you or see if a used engine can be had from one of the members (option 5).

option 6 ALUMINATOR 4.6L DOHC LONG BLOCK NATURALLY ASPIRATED M-6007-A46NA* (http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField= 9871)

Brian, he said it was the same motor. must be an 03. its an aluminum block and 10.1 compression.
im hopin for Option 4.
the car blew up with only 34k and now a year and 3 months later it does it again. The Ford rep was surprised to hear that it was still the first motor considering what had happened the first time so she said it is a good possiblitiy that i would be able to get a new long block from Ford and pay only $750 to install it.

Maybe it is the 01 Cobra motor. Anyway, let us know of the outcome.

Our condolences for your loss. :(
Mine went at 36k.
Iron block replacement with forged internals from Zack with labor installed was less than $4000.
Why not use the resources here and and get it fixed to your liking without dealing with a dealer?

new 4.6 mod. $750. Thats a no brainer!!! Mine runs like a champ, but for a new 1 @750. HELL YEA!!! I'm takin' it!! Who cares if its a short or long block. the money yer savin' as apposed to buying a new whole complete motor ($ 15,000 Ford Racing). Oh yea take my brain please. P.S. take the DEAL and RUUUUNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!

^^^^^^^ +1
Take the deal, your girlfriends uncle is being real GOOD to you. The are not supposed to give a P05 adjustment to second owners.
Worse case is that you take the deal, then remove engine and install something stronger, and STILL have the OEM engine on the side just in case.

I have noticed the past couple of oil changes that my oil was not showing up on the dipstick so I checked it after a month this time and I was a quart low... AFTER A MONTH!!! I love these oil burning ford motors!!! Why did I buy this car again? Oh wait, a girl checked me out and smiled at me on the way to work today (yes I had to work saturday... grrrr) Now I remember why I bought this car!!! Maybe I should really try to blow my motor before my warranty is up!!!!

 Are you saying that you do not check your oil level between oil changes? That's a :nono:
That's like #1 on the basic maintenance checks.

You ass I told you the Cobra blocks are iron. IF he said AL, it's an '01 like Brian stated. I'm always here you know if you want someone to rip the motor out. You guys are nuts with the Aluminator, a built 5.0, he has LITTLE money. If money wasn't an issue, he wouldn't post this and would get his dream motor.

Thanks Jarod, finally someone who knows my situation. I work my ass off just to have the car, and enjoy it the way most people like to.
I have to take out a loan to fix this car

Let Zack handle this. I had to replace my engine too and was lucky enough to get one with zero miles on it from a member on here for $3,000. Or you can give Zack a blank check and he'll take care of the rest. ;)
