View Full Version : OK, I'll Ask...
Maybe I'm the only one here who doesn't know the answer to this, but, what the heck is a modular engine? Is our 4.6 modular? What is the difference between modular and non-modular?

Ross, I'll take a shot at it. A modular engine is an engine block design that can be by use in differents car models or applications where they may change the head design or valve train, intake and such to produce different levels of performance while keeping the cost of production down by not manufacturing a totally different block for every application, this is my interpretation, if I left something out or got it wrong....soon we will both find out. :)

Yes, you got it...
Part of the "modular" process is that Ford can also use much of the same tooling to manufacture the different versions, too...
Thanks guys. I had heard that term, but had no idea what it meant.
