As some know I hit a deer enroute to Carlisle at about 05:10 hrs yesterday morning. I've lived "in the woods" for 26 years now and this was my 1st. I've had a number of close calls but never hit one. My wife and her parent's faces are on wanted posters in the woods for deericide. I can't even count how many they've hit. Anyway, I'm no longer a virgin and see how out of the blue fast it can happen. We were traveling south on STR 26. I was going about 45mph due to dense fog. I also had a really bad feeling, like something was going to happen. Well sure as sh&t a doe lands right in front of my car after jumping a 6' fence on the east side of the road. She was in full run. It was like I hit a ball with a bat. I'd estimate she flew down the road 100', mostly air borne. I didn't have time to hit the brakes until I had struck her. The front end pieces just exploded. There was nothing left of the grill, just small pieces. Anything made of plastic or fiberglass shattered all over the highway. I have some pictures, but I'm a computer tard and can't figure out how to post them, I tried, they went into cyber space...
I'm amazed that the radiator doesn't leak. It took a beating. The bumper didn't get too much damage. Everything above it will have to be replaced. The hood is bent and shoved back into the fenders/cowling. The final insult, the beatch left feces all over my roof, rear window and trunk...
I can't wait to see the estimate. Its all set to go in for estimate/repair at a good shop in Syracuse on Tuesday. I called them and they claim to have worked on Marauders. Since there are only a couple over there we'll see.

We were all concerned and so sorry about what happened. Besides, we needed that DTR to help break up the sea of Black! We missed you and wish you good luck in putting your ride (and your nerves) back together!

Glad to see you are posting up. Some sleep and time helps the BP and so does talking about it. We'll catch you next year in PA.

Best,
Jonathan

Sorry about the car but we are all glad nobody was hurt. Just be grateful that it was not a foot higher. A doe in your chest a 45mph is a very bad thing.

Estimate for repair is $3583. Not too bad. I have a Cheby 4x4 PU to drive while the DTR is being repaired. Fugliest blue paint they could find. At least its new.

Good to hear no one was hurt. I've had experience with two of the forest rats, one I fell on road in front of me and became a speed bump, while the other one jumped a fence on the grade above me and landed on my roof. Scared the crap out me, but the buck survived and stood at the side of the road snorting at me like I did something wrong. Good luck with the repairs and I hope you get her back real soon.

The one I hit jumped a 6' fence, up a embankment also. With the fog I never saw it until it was hitting the car. That would have been a surprise for my sleeping wife if the deer had come through the moon roof on us. As it happened it scared the bejesus out of her.

:( We've got a deer population problem here in east Carolina. I'm dreading the day when I hit one. Be glad it didn't bounce up into your windshield. I've heard some horror stories of deer going through windshields.

If anyone is still following this, the car is done, uhm sorta. It looked great on the outside. I arrived late to pick it up and felt bad for people staying past quit time. When I got home I opened the hood. :shake::shake::shake: They did not replace the radiator cover, the engine is FILTHY and the right head lamp has moisture in it (rained on the way home). Who knows how much of that dust went into my engine. You'd think they would be smart enough to cover the intake.

So I call the GEICO rep this morning. I'll get back to you in 1/2 hr. Well 1 1/2 hrs later I call him. Seems they were supposed to tell me that the rad cover wouldn't be in until the 19th. (Yea right) and we're so sorry about the dirty engine bay. Uh huh... Bring it in Friday and we'll make all well. Sorry leaving for SC Friday. See you the week of the 4th and don't expect a great evaluation. I'm sure it will all turn out ok, but at $4.60 a gallon I'd prefer not to make unnecessary trips to Syracuse.

Ewwph...at least you are nudging towards an end here that is somewhat positive (got your 'Rauder back, good start so far, right?)...

I think I would've noticed the same things, taken it personally, maybe blew my stack (making things worse, of course...just alienating the people who I need to help me), and eventually come around to what appears to be the calm you are exhibiting now...

Keep venting...it's therapy...

If they (GEICO & bodyshop personnel) get less than an excellent customer evaluation, they got splainen to do. Start working on excuses guys...
-and- this will be the last time I ever use a insurance co affiliated shop, lifetime warranty or not.
