View Full Version : What should Christine be?

Some of you may know the movie Christine is going to be a remake and I bet you we won't see a Plymouth Fury or hear Little Richard, but we will see a car. Think of the movie and how Christine was about 21 years old... now think of today. What would be a good 21 year old car to fit the shoes of Christine? The only car I can think of that would fit is a 1987 Cadillac Coupe DeVille... if that exists or just any mid 80s Couple Deville would do.

What should it be?

Think of the back story, It has to be a car that someone could fall in love with but yet have a stylish evil look to it. In todays world of very few cars that have its own personal look and style, it will be very hard to pick one from the last 21 years to be a true "Christine" Makes me wish they would let the movie stand on its own, It such a great movie that I think they are going to ruin it. Unless of course Christine is a Marauder. how cool would that be?? Think of how popular our cars would be then.

Im thinking they would actually use the same car but any damage would now be CGI to preserve any remaining cars out there.

That is what I'm assuming is going to happen too Paul, but I hate computer special effects, I wanna see the real thing.

It could only be a '58 fury and thats it or it would be a complete waste of film! I didn't hear anything about a remake, but i've been wanting one since '82!

Christine wasn't the sporty type. Remember she was bashing a Camaro...

Not sporty?? She was the plymouth hot rod that no 57 chevy could touch with her 318 dual quad not even the 56 crown vic could touch her.

I think it should be another 58 fury, in the end of the original when its all crushed up, i think you can see part of the grille starting to move.....

its not dead yet

I'm with Paul leave the movie alone. Let it stand as a classic. Next thing you know they'll be after Bullit or The Driver or The Car.

Also a fact i'm sure you probably know is that the 57 and 58 fury only came in egg shell white and that was why every worker on the production line was staring at it. So at least carpenter did his homework. Except King was an idiot with his four door fury version in the book. I also say bring back the original cast (those who did and didn't die)

I'm actually glad to hear they're re-doing this movie. I won't say that I didn't enjoy the movie, but it really didn't do the book justice at all. To me the book was about a ghost that drove the car, and eventually possessed the owner (Arine), not about a "haunted car" which seems to be what John Carpenter did with the story. I hope they do the movie right this time.

Gotta say, I've got a real soft spot for '57-'61 Chrysler products, especially Plymouths, so I'm really hoping that any of the destructive parts are CGI and not real vehicles.

I'm not sure the movie would be the same without a 1958 Plymouth as the car, but I don't know, if you had to modernize it, maybe a "Starsky and Hutch" Torino?? :shake: At least it was available in Red and White!!

I loved the original Christine. If they use any other car it would completely ruin the movie. It has to be the Plymouth Fury.

I agree that whatever they decide to do, all the destructive effects should be CG...if they ruin another beautiful classic like they did in the original movie, I will NEVER watch the remake.

Besides, other than the Brady Bunch movie, every remake ever done SUCKED compared to the original...

If I remember reading the book a well as I hope I do, I believe the red/white paint scheme of that particular Fury was a custom order. It's been a while since I read it, but I'm pretty sure that was the deal.

At any rate, it would plain-ass-stupid to remake it without a Plymouth Fury. I mean, just the name of the model, Fury, adds to the character of the story. It kind of represents the "fury" that the old guy felt towards the world. Maybe in the remake they'll actually have him in it, unlike the original movie version. Think they'll have the bright pink sewage pumping truck in it instead of a bulldozer? I can only hope that it'll be closer to the book than Carpenter's version was. As a Stephen King fan, it gets disappointing. Like when they release "The Mist". If you didn't read the story, it's a pretty good movie. But I read it at least a half-dozen times. The ending was totally screwed up from the book.

OK, enough ranting. :mad2: I can keep on going, but I shouldn't.

I disagree. When Gone In 60 Seconds was remade it had more of a story to it than the original, but I will say the original had a much better chase scene. The original was better, but the remake didn't suck.

I will say about 95% of remakes suck.

ledzilla - My hat is off to to you bud..... I couldn't have said that any better myself! I'm a big SK fan as well, and it's dissapointing to see almost all his stuff butchered when it hits the big screen. Apparently, there's also a re-make of "Pet Semetary" comming soon as well. We'll see how that goes.

I don't know if you remember the "See anything green" sceen out of the book.... (Arnie's out cruising, orders a pizza at Gino's, catches s$$$ with his folks and find LeBay's ghost in the car); that's the one I hope they add to the movie. It really made it clear that it's Roland D. LeBay who's haunting / driving the car.

The exploding gas station??? Where heck was that in the book!

Will Darnell kicks a** , i liked him but Leigh was definatly over dressed!!
But fact is they wrecked something like 22-24 cars but hundreds have been and still are being saved by the crusher by enthusiasts from the popularity of the movie. I even stumbled across a christine owners forum. The last time i priced a couple on ebay they were running $3,500 and up with rotted frames and that was a couple years back. I think Volo museum just sold theirs a couple weeks ago for $99,000 and it was a documented movie car.

mrjones
06-11-2008, 09:41 PM
They should use a Saturn EV1 as the car. Leigh from the original movie was one of the principals in the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car". Seems like a good fit to me.

I'm wondering what the remake will be like. The original movie was good, but it was not nearly as detailed or scary as the book.

Motorhead350

They had 16 cars and wrecked 14 I believe and the one at the Volo Musiem was $165,000 last time I checked. I'm going to own that car someday.

I mean come on the marauder is such a evil looking car. Its sexy, black, rare and almost indestructible as it is, I've really pushed mine to any other cars limit, from offroading to flooring it everywhere to slamming it from neutral to drive at 4000 rpm to donuts and endless burnouts i mean I've jumped railroad tracks at 70 mph and got 5 feet off the ground and 4 seconds of air time and not a f***ing thing is wrong, is still drives like new. And i know these things can go up to 400,000 miles on them. If any car newer then 1958 should be christine its the marauder. Especially with a name like the mercury marauder and not very many people have one. Since ive heard of the marauder(2005) ive only seen 3 on the road (random encounters not counting mine and the ones at marauder meets) and i drive alot and i have a large radius of where i drive. So if any car should be christine its the Marauder. If they remade christine with the marauder my life would be complete and id probably cry out of joy.

Marauder would be cool. But an olds cutlass or GN would fit the bill perfectly, they are better known to the masses.

Unfortunately, it's got to be a car that today's movie goer recognizes.

That eliminates a lot of the old 1950/60's classics, except for the early Mustang.

A late 80's TownCar could be made to look menacing with that big "Rolls Royce" grille and squared off body style.

My wife insists that my marauder was haunted one night a few years ago. She claims that is just slipped into drive on it's own and crashed into a bush while I was carrying my sleeping son to bed.

Got a paniced call on my cell from his room.

Nothing like that has even happened before or since.

She thinks it was my late mother, who's name was Christine.

I've put a lot of work into it since.

Did I mention I was born in Maine, and used to live up the road from Steven King.

Not joking.

Use GM's for the movie. Save the Marauders for good shots.
I think they should use The Evil Smart Car.

AWESOME, other than the neutral drops.

Five years later and still no remake, not sure if this is good or bad.

I think the only modern choices for the car would have to be either some sort of semi-tricked-out Ford Panther body, or the same for a mid-90's GM B-Body.

Maybe one of those conversions you see where a Roadmaster Wagon is made to look like an Impala SS?

Other than those two body styles, there's nothing modern out there that would fit the bill really.
