Am I the only guy that dreams of having this engine in his Marauder. I think I'm going nuts thinking about it. I can't wait to have it in the car but need to build up other components first.

Wilwood Big brakes are first on the list.
P
Sure it looke pretty, but its certainly not a deal by any means for what you are getting.

Zack,
have something better in mind. This thing comes from Ford ready to go with warranty! I've seen way to many built engines eat it and it scares me. I don't mind spending a little extra Koush and not have to pull the motor again.
I'm new to the Ford thing and would love some advice. Keep in mind this car will be running around in the winter months in Northern Ontario:eek: Hope the roots type blower will hold up?

I love this thing,if I blow up my engine this is what is replacing it.Have you sourced out any pricing other then the m.s.r.p.?

Wonder if Ray "The Dealer" could hook us up with a price??
P
Youd be better off buying a reman Cobra engine for $4500....
Its the same damn thing!
Yes it has a 50lb heavier iron block, but I think you could live with that knowing there is an extra $2200 in your pocket.

Zack,
is that the only diffrence. I know the Aluminator comes in two flavors SC and NA. Same internals?? $2200 is a lot for a 50lbs saving:eek:
Need to get a real price on this thing and not MSRP

You can make conservative 550RWHP DynoJet Inertia on a Cobra Reman and it comes w/ a warr.

So the Ford Cobra Reman is has a 8.5:1 compression ratio?
Anyone have specs on the Ford Cobra Reman? I can't find them.

While you are shopping for a cobra motor, look for a upgraded transmission. You will need that if you get boost drunk.

Merc,
kinda figured that with so many miles on the clock I might as well get the Transmission Rebuilt/upgraded. Guess I'm going to have to drop the car off in Florida sometime in the Autmn.

I was driving Cheeseheadbob's Trilogy MM when it dumped 3rd and 4th gear. Mid 400 rwhp/tq on a early build stock motor and trans was just waiting for something to happen. I'm just glad that's all that happened and was still able to get his baby back home safe in one piece. Can't wait to see it in action after the upgrades are done!
I would def. go with the Cobra remaned engine. I believe their warranty is 3yrs/75k miles which to me is great and it's ready for boost.

Am I missing something here? The Aluminator is $6700 supercharged. Thats the same price as a stand alone roots blower. Does the Cobra reman come supercharged? In that case, the $4500 would be the way to go.

The SC Aluminator is SuperCharger ready;) I wish it came with the Charger for that price!

Ahh, I misunderstood. The link you posted said "supercharged". What kind of power does it yield N/A?

You mean like this aluminator?

That would be the one but I would need a Roots Type for the Northern Ontario winters. Great looking Engine in that pic:)

That would be nice with a new Twin screw kit. What would that run?

Would it even run anyway with no blower? I mean, they are low compression pistons. If there's no boost, it may or may not run. I'm not sure though.

Sure it would, just not at its maximum potential.

FRPP catalog list price is at least 20% higher then what any reasonably talkative person can get from their FRPP parts man. I just bought the LSD HD disk and "S" spring kit from FRPP listed for $129 for $90. That's a 30% discount. An Aluminator SC short block is listed for $4,500. If you speak English you should be able to buy it for $3,600 and if you have a good talk you can get it down to $3,200. Get someone who knows a FRPP parts counter man and get him to buy it for you.

Wrong Oil Pan and Value covers to start. Also you will have to add lots of boost and a 8 bolt flex plate.
These lower compression motors would need a SC to work good. Would they be kind of doggie running NA?

Couldn't I just swap over things from my stock engine? I didn't know if there is any difference in that engine compared to the Cobra reman. "Upgraded heads and windage tray.
So in your opinion it would be wiser to get the Cobra reman engine while being NA still for future use of a s/c going on?

I would not touch a Cobra motor unless you have a blower. Without a blower it will be slower then your stock Marauder Motor. How would like to be back in the 14-15 second class again. Then add about 50 more pounds because of the iron block. On the other hand you could swap just about everything off of your old block except you still need to purchase a 8 bolt flex plate.

That's is why Ford Racing makes the N/A Aluminator

it states it is intended for manual trans applications. will it work in a Marauder?
Richy04
12-05-2008, 11:10 PM
Yes, because they assume you will drop it in a manual car. The 8 bolt pattern was primarily designed for a manual, the flex plate with 8 bolts came out afterward. Just add the 8 bolt flexplate and you are good to go in a car with auto..
The two aluminators are 8.5 and 10:1 compression. Ford assumes you will use the 8.5 for supercharged applications and 10:1 for normal aspiration, but you can use the 10:1 as well. The 10:1 is just as strong internally but they use the 8.5 ratio (as in the cobra) for the added safety margin. They do not come with blowers of any sort.

Does anyone know the power numbers for these motors N/A?
Richy04
12-06-2008, 12:15 PM
If you run the 8.5 N/A it will make less power than your stock MM. If you run the 10:1, it will also make less power. The forged bottom end is heavier than the stock powdered metal stuff which is much lighter. You have to mod these with a S/C, turbo or some mods elsewhere to make them a worthwhile swap.
The benefit is bottom end strength which comes with a price.
